Xbox reagerer på rapporter om at GTA 6 dominerer salget på PS5

There are less than two months left until the release of GTA 6 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. Rockstar Games has not yet shared any official sales figures, although the estimates from various analysts—as well as hints from the studio’s publisher—are quite impressive. A new report also sheds more light on which platform has significantly more pre-orders.

According to Tom Warren, representing The Verge, pre-orders for GTA 6 on the PlayStation 5 are significantly outpacing those for the Xbox Series X/S. According to the source, this is causing some concern within Xbox, given the current state of the console market.

According to Tom Warren, GTA 6 pre-orders are reportedly overwhelmingly dominated by PS5, with Xbox accounting for only a fraction of the demand.

Sources within Xbox say the numbers are fueling serious internal anxiety, raising increasingly urgent concerns about the long-term future of Xbox as a platform.

Xbox's response to Tom Warren's article wasn't long in coming. On his X page, Matthew Ball, the company's CFO, wrote the company is delighted with GTA 6's pre-order numbers, confirmed the game has already broken several records, and expects that number to keep growing. Tom, we are very happy with GTA VI pre-orders. The title is breaking records for XBOX, we expect even more records will be broken throughout the fall, and our internal analysis shows our share of pre-orders to be matching our share of the console market.

However, this isn't the first time we've heard that GTA 6 sales on the PS5 significantly outpace those on the Xbox Series X/S. As reported by IGN at the end of June, the ratio of game pre-orders was 6 to 1 in favor of the Sony platform. It remains unclear what the situation is at this time.
