Silent Hill: Townfall lanseres på Steam med en topp på over 8000 spillere

Silent Hill: Townfall officially launched on PC and PS5 on September 24. According to SteamDB, the game's concurrent player count on Steam reached 8,360. This is its record so far, and it was set roughly a day after the full release.

Deluxe Edition owners got early access to the game starting September 22. Even then, the player count held at around 5,000–6,000 during peak hours. After the release for everyone on September 24, the number of players grew noticeably, and that same evening the game set its record. Right now the player count sits at around 3,500, but it will grow in the evening hours.

Despite a decent start, the game's technical state is already raising questions. Back during early access, Townfall received a "Mostly Positive" rating on Steam with about 70% positive reviews, but that figure has now dropped to 67%. Most of the negative reviews are about performance. Players complain about constant microstutters and so-called traversal stutter, which is hitching when moving between areas. The problems show up even on top-end setups: one player with a Ryzen 7 9800X3D and an RTX 4090 requested a refund.

Critics, for their part, gave Townfall a warm reception. On Metacritic, the game holds 81 points based on 45 reviews, none of which are negative. On OpenCritic, the Top Critic Average is 82, and 90% of reviewers recommend the game. For comparison, Silent Hill f and the Silent Hill 2 remake both sit at 86 on Metacritic, so the new entry falls slightly short of both.
