Capcom bekreftet at nye Resident Evil-spill vil bli utgitt årlig

There's no doubt that Resident Evil is Capcom's leading franchise at the moment, and that is confirmed not just by the sales figures— over 23 million copies of the series sold between March 2025 and March 2026 —but also by the studio's plans to release a new game every year. However, there is one important nuance here.

The idea is that Capcom plans to rotate new franchise entries with remakes of older titles, similar to how it handled the Resident Evil 2, 3, and 4 remakes in previous years; the studio is currently working on Resident Evil Veronica, an enhanced version of the original 2000 title. In the latest issue of Game Informer, Capcom producer Masachika Kawata confirmed the studio is adopting a strategy of releasing new Resident Evil entries every year. For anyone worried this might hurt games’ quality, Kawata explained the team plans to stagger the release schedule, alternating between new games and remakes. This also won't stop Capcom from working on other projects and new IPs, as it did with Pragmata this spring. You can check out Kawata's full quote below:

“Remakes are just as important as the mainline titles. Capcom is fortunate to have this cycle, which provides us with the financial resources to create new entries in the saga and new IPs, like Pragmata.”

This strategy seems to be working well for Capcom. By remaking older Resident Evil titles, the studio can give them a real overhaul while tying them into newer entries—rumor has it Resident Evil Veronica will follow that same approach, linking into this year's Resident Evil Requiem. There are also reports the game will feature a full cameo from Leon S. Kennedy, who was only mentioned in an email in the original.

Resident Evil Veronica is confirmed for 2027 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. There is also a story DLC for Requiem, which doesn't have a release date yet but is rumored to launch after Veronica. Capcom is also reportedly working on remakes of Resident Evil Zero and the very first game in the franchise, along with an anniversary tenth installment. None of these projects have been officially confirmed, though, and everything we know about them so far has come from insiders only.
