Kliffs skuespiller innrømmet plotproblemer med Crimson Desert
Despite Crimson Desert’s many strengths—such as its vast open world brimming with activities and its spectacular combat system—Pearl Abyss’s game has one glaring flaw: a frankly boring and mediocre storyline.
We know that the game’s script underwent changes during development, and initially it was more of a political thriller that featured the power struggle between the king and the prime minister before it escalated into a confrontation between Kliff and the mercenary unit Greymanes, led by Myurdir. The fact that the game's storyline fell flat was recently confirmed by the head of Pearl Abyss, Heo Jin-young, who shared that the gaming studio decided to focus on gameplay more than the story. Also, we saw comments from Alex Newman, the voice actor of Kliff, who revealed a lot of interesting details about Crimson Desert development process and how the game changed. And now, another actor of Kliff, Trevor McEwan, who was appointed as a performance capture artist and reference model for Kliff, has organized a Q&A session on Reddit. One of the users, One_Subject3157, has asked him about the thoughts of the game’s story and he said almost the same things that we heard previously, as you can check out below:
“One_Subject3157: How do you feel about the game's plot? Most players thinks the story delivered is barebones.
TrXpla (Trevor McEwan): Yeah, i get that, but i think what it lacks in narrative it more than makes up for in other aspects. There's also lore hidden across the world as well, if player's don't mind a bit of reading”
He also revealed that he really enjoyed doing some wrestling moves, as it was part of the combat system in Crimson Desert, with the RKO named his favorite move, and he praised the Korean stunt team for choreography during the development. But at the same time, while playing Crimson Desert, Trevor reveals that the game felt “very surreal” for him, and in general Crimson Desert has appeared “not what he expected but better than he hoped”.
Crimson Desert continues to receive more updates and support from Pearl Abyss, and the upcoming patch is looking to be the biggest for the game so far and is expected to release this week. Pearl Abyss is also working on their next title, DokeV, announced back in 2019. It's an open-world action-adventure video game featuring Dokebi—Korean folklore creatures that gain strength from people’s dreams and collide together on their adventures. The release date of the game is currently planned for no earlier than 2027 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
