Grand Theft Auto VI is expected to become Rockstar Games biggest title yet, with the game’s budget reportedly close to $3 billion. It might also be the greatest title in the history of video games in terms of scale and the level of details, which developers are known for and have repeatedly demonstrated in previous projects.

This was also hinted at by former Rockstar Games developer Rob Carr, who worked as a sound designer on the original Red Dead Redemption as well as Grand Theft Auto V. He recently appeared on the Kiwi Talkz podcast, where he spoke about Rockstar’s “unlimited” sort of development that led to the creation of every game element at the highest level. "You can kind of go nuts... As a creative person, I’ve never had as a problem. One thing that Rockstar does exceptionally well is the open world... The first thing that you ask in any job is: what are the limits? You know, what are the constraints that we have here and you'll give them technical limitations. You know, like each soundbank has to be X, Y, and Z; these are your limitations for every mission. These are the technical constraints. Well, what are the creative constraints? There isn't any. Go nuts.

What that means is like, well, if you want to do footsteps and you want 10,000 different unique sounds for that, go nuts. Because we'd soon have lots of things and then pull back on something if we don't need it. Like, yes, you did 10,000 footstep sounds. Do we need 10,000? Probably not. Well, let's just limit it to about 100 then.

Can it get quite overwhelming, though? Obviously, with something like, say Red Dead Redemption 1 and GTA 5, they're massive in size, right? So, the amount of sounds you'd have to make is just insane. It’s easier to dial it down, go too much and then strip some fat off than it is to not do enough and then have to push for that extra 5 or 10% at the end of the project, right?”

Former Rockstar Games Developer Explained How GTA 6 Could Become a Game Without Limits 1

According to recent research made by a Reddit user, the budget of Grand Theft Auto VI could be around $2-3 billion, despite last year’s statement by Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two Interactive, that the budget of GTA 6 is about $1 billion. If that is true, that means the budget of the sixth Grand Theft Auto installment is ten times bigger than its predecessor, Grand Theft Auto V, and the level of details in the game will excite players for real.
