Sega fremhever nye systemer og fokus på vaktmestere i Yakuza Kiwami 3
Yakuza Kiwami 3 is adding a set of systems that expand Kazuma Kiryu’s role as caretaker, with Sega confirming that the remake will track his development through a mechanic called Daddy Rank. The feature reflects Kiryu’s day-to-day responsibilities at the Morning Glory orphanage, positioning his progress in domestic tasks as a structured part of the game’s loop. It anchors a slate of updates RGG Studio is preparing for the February release, alongside new activities and a range of small-scale story threads.
Daddy Rank measures Kiryu’s growth in skills tied to running the orphanage. As players complete chores and respond to the children’s requests, Kiryu gains competency in cooking and housekeeping, which unlocks additional scenes. Sega describes the feature as a progression path that opens routes to new interactions and recipes. It also integrates with several minigames tied to the orphanage’s routines. Sewing, bug-catching, and homework challenges fold into the broader system, while a crafting-style market lets players sell the results of their efforts for small rewards.
The focus on Kiryu’s domestic life does not replace the core structure of the remake. It works instead as a counterpoint to the returning crime-driven narrative of Yakuza 3, reflecting the series’ long-running balance between melodrama and grounded character moments. Morning Glory’s expansion also signals RGG Studio’s ongoing interest in building out the quieter spaces around its protagonists, which have become staple elements across recent entries.
Alongside the main remake, Sega is preparing Dark Ties, a companion game centered on antagonist Yoshitaka Mine. The mode follows Mine through a series of assignments related to Tsuyoshi Kanda’s public image. Missions range from familiar Yakuza-style side stories to a social activity called Drink Links, which stages character interactions in nightlife settings. These encounters gradually raise Kanda’s reputation from a low starting point toward a more favorable public standing. Sega indicates that these sequences may alter elements of Kanda’s personality as the story unfolds.
Dark Ties leans into Mine’s role as an enforcer, navigating the expectations of a hostile environment. Its structure mirrors the series’ traditional approach to character-driven side arcs, pairing small decisions with shifts in loyalty and perception. The mode also appears designed to contrast with Kiryu’s caretaker storyline, splitting the remake’s new material between domestic stability and the calculated pressures of organized crime.
Kiwami 3 and Dark Ties continue Sega’s strategy of rebuilding early Yakuza titles with added systems and expanded context. The studio has consistently used remakes to test new mechanics, refine characterization, and layer more optional activities around the core plots. These additions aim to broaden the rhythm of play without altering the story’s established framework.
Read also, Sega’s latest trailer for the Yakuza 3 remake has drawn criticism over the inclusion of actor Teruyuki Kagawa, who admitted to sexually assaulting a woman in a Tokyo club. The decision has revived backlash under the #REMOVEKAGAWA hashtag, with fans noting the contrast between Sega’s silence now and its swift recasting of Pierre Taki in 2019 after his cocaine arrest.
