Ingen Regis og separat Witcher-tittel: CD Projekt RED Delte utviklingsdetaljer for Blood and Wine DLC

Yesterday there was a presentation from CD Projekt RED, the developers of The Witcher games, which was dedicated to the anniversary of the DLC for the third part, The Blood and Wine. In addition to discussing the new expansion for the game, Songs of the Past, some details of the development of the add-on were revealed, which noticeably differed from how it turned out in the end.

One of the main changes was that the original amount of The Blood and Wine content was enough for a full game, and many parts of it were cut in order to release the add-on in expansion format. Also, the developers did not plan to add Regis to the game, who became one of the central characters, but the main idea was still built around vampires. At the same time, the studio did not immediately consider the duchy of Toussaint as the main location—apparently, the original tone of The Blood and Wine was darker and gloomier.

In the same stream, CD Projekt RED revealed some details about the upcoming new expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Songs of the Past. In addition to hints that it will be as large-scale as Blood and Wine, the studio's social media manager, Laura Beitzel, stated that the plot of the expansion may be related to the celebration of Belleteyn - an event from the franchise's lore, which supposedly marks the blurring of boundaries between worlds. She also teased that one of Geralt's swords, featured in the DLC concept art, would be in the spotlight. According to fans, it is the same sword that Ciri carries in The Witcher 4 trailer.

Among other news, Songs of the Past will include new cards for Gwent, and a full presentation of the expansion will most likely take place at Gamescom 2026, where the project's participation is confirmed. Additionally, CD Projekt RED announced that sales of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt amounted to $65 million, publishing the financial report for the first quarter of 2026.
