Utgivelsesvindu og nye detaljer for Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic delt av Casey Hudson

Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic is one of, if not the most anticipated upcoming games based on the franchise. Not only because it will be a full-fledged open-world game, but primarily because it is being developed under the guidance of an RPG specialist, Casey Hudson, who was responsible for work on the original Knights of the Old Republic and the Mass Effect trilogy.

Recently, Bloomberg shared a new report that focused on Simon Zhu, the former head of NetEase, who founded a new company, GreaterThan Group; this company is also financing Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic. In addition, the aforementioned Casey Hudson revealed some details about the game. He confirmed previous information that he plans to release the game by 2030 and also stated that generative AI will not be used during development. Furthermore, the studio is not aiming to create a project designed to last 200 hours, since this is not always an indicator of success. The highlights from his interview you can check out below:

“I just find AI to be creatively soulless. It’s hard to imagine where it’s actually helpful in the process. I’m just really unimpressed with it.

Bigger isn’t necessarily better. If I’m excited about a game and then I find out that it’s 200 hours long — even if I have no ambition to actually finish it — I wonder, if I put 20 hours in, will I even be out of act one? A lot of players just want to play something and finish it.”

Star Wars: Fate of the Old Republic was announced last year at December’s The Game Awards show. Besides Hudson, several experienced developers are working on the game who previously worked on iconic RPG projects such as Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, the Dragon Age game series, and the Mass Effect trilogy, and more. There are also several other video games based on the Star Wars universe in development:

  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake—developed by Mad Head Games for PC and PlayStation 5—still has no release date. The new look at the game is rumored to be revealed somewhere this year.
  • Star Wars Eclipse—Announced in 2021 and developed by Quantic Dream (Detroit: Become Human, Heavy Rain). It still has no release date, and the development is reportedly complicated due to the cancellation of Spellcasters Chronicles, the income of which was supposed to contribute to the development of the game.
  • Star Wars: Galactic Racer—a new racing title from Fuse Games, former developers behind the Burnout and Need for Speed game series. Set to release on October 6, 2026, for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
  • Star Wars: Jedi 3—Rumored to be in development at Electronic Arts/Respawn Entertainment, and Lucasfilm recently teased the return of the game series main character, Cal Kestis.
