This week marks the release of one of the most anticipated video games of 2026—LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, developed by TT Games. On the occasion of the upcoming game release, the first reviews from gaming media have started to appear, confirming that the game is successful.

The game is called one of the best, if not the best ever LEGO titles, praised for its combat system, great missions, humor, and well-written story, and the expression about it being the heir to Batman: Arkham and the love letter of the Dark Knight is repeatedly mentioned. TT Games latest title currently has a score of 84 on Metacritic, based on 33 Critic Reviews, and 84 Top Critic Average on OpenCritic, with 100% Critics Recommended. Some of the short reviews from notable gaming press you can check out below:

CGMagazine – 100/100:

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is the best love letter to Batman we’ve ever seen. The way it handles the history of the World's Greatest Detective is incredible. With great combat mechanics, a fun and fantastical story that gives the cornerstone eras their turn, this is, hands down, the best LEGO game to date.

GAMINGbible – 100/100:

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is impossible to put down. It manages to imbue the intensity of Gotham with just the right level of whimsy and humour. The game’s perfectly crafted open-world and varied mission design don’t simply just make it a blast to play; it also makes the game very good value for money, and that goes a long way these days. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight deserves to stand proud as one of the best games of 2026 and within LEGO and Batman’s history.

Screen Rant – 100/100:

The end result is a fun, funny, and self-aware homage to the Dark Knight that is equal parts LEGO wackiness and phenomenal Batman Arkham successor. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is one of the best LEGO games of all time. Heck, it might just be THE best LEGO game ever. And it'll certainly give your favorite Arkham game a run for its money.

DualShockers – 90/100:

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is extremely ambitious in scope compared to previous LEGO/mega-IP combos, and it succeeds tremendously in nearly everything it has set out to accomplish.

Game Informer – 88/100:

I am utterly delighted by Legacy of the Dark Knight. Its story is charming and effective, its combat is engaging, and its open world is top-notch. It's a no-holds-barred approach to the revered character, and though there are spots where the execution could have been better, TT Games included everything I could have asked for in one wholly entertaining package. The Dark Knight has a storied legacy, and this adventure does it justice.

GamesRadar+ - 80/100:

I happily continue to zip along Gotham, gliding into the night and generally completing various objectives and upgrading skill trees as I see fit. That's after finishing the story, which I could also go back and replay just to make sure I pick up the collectibles in them too. There's just so many little things to do, see, break, and build.

IGN – 80/100:

Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is a lovingly made, often hilarious take on both Batman’s movie and video game history alike. It remixes classic moments from almost every film, with deeper cuts from the Caped Crusader’s comic book beginnings, too. A largely successful attempt at sophisticating Lego combat that suffers a bit from repetitive, one-note encounter design, combined with a good mixture of puzzles, powers its homage-laden levels. But its open-world Gotham is where it truly comes to life, generously packing its gothic surroundings with hundreds of collectibles and pockets of opportunity. It might not tell a story that will sit alongside Batman’s best overall, but it delivers a fantastic plastic parody of his greatest hits.

VGC – 80/100:

Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is a love letter to not just Batman, but the history of Batman media. While it's a very easy game, that doesn't take the shine off of an experience that left me smiling constantly. Rocksteady's legacy is given the recognition it deserves, and proves there's still a huge demand for the Arkhamverse to rise again.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight will feature the biggest version of Gotham City, even bigger than in 2015’s Batman: Arkham Knight, and include 7 playable characters (Batman, Robin, Nightwing, Catwoman, Batgirl, Jim Gordon, and Talia al Ghul), all with unique skills, abilities, and gadgets. We will also see a lot of DC lore from comics, TV shows, and films and fight some of the greatest Batman villains—Joker, Penguin, Mr. Freeze, Bane, and more. Insider Gaming recently shared that the game's main story duration is approximately 15 hours, but to complete LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight at 100%, you will need about 50 hours, which is pretty challenging.
