Last year’s MindsEye video game, developed by Build a Rocket Boy studio, has faced a wave of hatred from players—which was entirely deserved—and became the worst title of 2026, despite high expectations. Not only that, but the developing studio, Build a Rocket Boy, has had several layoffs since the release of MindsEye, which will undoubtedly affect the game’s further support.

At the beginning of March, the CEO of Build a Rocket Boy, Mark Gerhart, announced another wave of layoffs via LinkedIn. At the same time, IO Interactive has also confirmed their partnership with the studio officially ended on March 16, with the transition expected to take place in the coming weeks. But according to the new report, there are chances one of Build a Rocket Boy's departments, Build a Rocket Boy France, might even be shut down. As revealed by French publication Origami, the studio has now been placed under judicial liquidation, and as a result, about 50 employees might lose their jobs—that is the approximate number of workers who are now at Build a Rocket Boy France. “Build A Rocket Boy France, co-developer of the ill-fated MindsEye, has filed for liquidation.

This was the Montpellier branch of the UK-based group founded by former Rockstar Leslie Benzies.

BARB France reportedly still employs around 50 people at present.”

Despite negative feedback Build a Rocket Boy and MindsEye received after the game’s launch and periodic layoffs earlier this year, earlier this year studio released their biggest update for MindsEye and confirmed they will continue to release more content for the game during this year, including a multiplayer mode.
