Gears of War: E-Day-anmeldelser avslørt – det er et av de beste spillene i 2026
Gears of War: E-Day, the latest entry in the franchise from The Coalition, launches October 6 on PC and Xbox Series X/S. A prequel to the very first game, it's already picking up early reviews, with a few genuine surprises along the way.
Gaming critics are broadly praising Gears of War: E-Day for returning to the tone of the original trilogy, dark atmosphere, horror elements, etc. Reviewers have also pointed to the chemistry between Marcus and Dom that makes the plot better, the brutal combat, strong visuals, and well-paced structure. The most common complaint seems to be a lack of major innovation. Even so, the game's currently sitting among the year's highest-rated titles, 87 on Metacritic and 87 on OpenCritic, with 89% of critics recommending it. Some brief reviews are below.
Generaction Xbox – 100/100:
Gears of War: E-Day is, for me, the best game in the series and The Coalition's finest work to date. Its campaign brings Marcus and Dom back without relying solely on nostalgia, delivering a darker and more brutal take on the origins of the Locust threat.
MondoXbox – 95/100:
Gears of War: E-Day delivers arguably the series’ strongest campaign, combining mature, restrained storytelling with the return of Marcus Fenix’s charismatic presence. Already among the franchise’s finest entries, it could become a serious Game of the Year contender if its content-rich multiplayer matches the campaign’s quality. Regardless, Xbox players should not miss this outstanding return to form.
GamingBolt – 90/100:
It stumbles sometimes with its story, but thanks to new and improved movement mechanics, Gears of War: E-Day ends up delivering some of the tightest combat and one of the series’ most excellently paced campaigns in a long, long time.
Voxel – 90/100:
Gears of War: E-Day hits the mark by getting the basics right: embracing its identity as a Gears of War game and elevating the strengths inherent to the series. The game doesn't revolutionize the genre, but it delivers a fun gameplay experience featuring a cinematic narrative and local multiplayer support.
VGC – 80/100:
Gears of War E-Day's campaign offers balls-to-the-wall action and rarely lets up, but that means the story takes more of a back seat than I'd like. It's good that time is given to the backstories of new protagonists Mags and Lucas, but given that the game is literally the playable Marcus and Dom backstory fans have been waiting decades to see, more time could have been spent on their relationship. In terms of pure gunplay, however, very little beats it this year.

Social media users have echoed that reception too, happy to see the series return to form after the cooler response to Gears of War 4 and Gears 5. That's despite the game's story director, Juan Vaca, leaving the project just a week before launch as part of Microsoft's layoffs.
PC and Xbox Series X/S players can try Gears of War: E-Day for themselves next week, with the game also available through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. You can also buy the game on Eneba and get a 5% discount using the promo code EGW5.
