Hideo Kojimas Physint skal visstnok ha hatt et «betydelig» budsjett – men under Xbox kan det være lavere.
Speculation continues to swirl around Physint—Hideo Kojima’s new project, which unexpectedly changed hands earlier this month. Sony declined to fund the game, reportedly due to the project’s massive budget, and Xbox will now serve as Physint’s publisher. Speaking of the budget, according to a recent report, it was indeed impressive.
This time, Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier shared some new information. In a recent video posted on the journalist's YouTube channel, he revealed additional details about the relationship involving Physint, PlayStation Studios, and Kojima Productions. According to Schreier, before news broke about the end of the collaboration between the studios, their representatives had been in negotiations for several months—as the journalist states—regarding “the future of the project, the project’s budget, the timeline, extensions, exclusivity, and ultimately, it didn’t lead to a satisfactory result.” Also, while in Japan for the Tokyo Game Show, he heard that Physint’s initial budget was “pretty significant,” and that, in his opinion, Xbox is paying slightly less for the development of Kojima’s new game.
It was Schreiber’s article that revealed in more detail why PlayStation decided against Physint. It specifically mentioned budget overspending, Death Stranding’s disappointing sales, and the risk the game would not generate significant revenue if it remained an exclusive. The article generated such a stir that Kojima Productions issued a statement of its own, referencing Schreiber’s report and suggesting that much of what was stated there was not true. Meanwhile, the journalist reported he had obtained the information from Sony, Xbox, and Kojima Productions representatives, as he wrote on his Bluesky page.
Hideo Kojima also revealed parting ways with PlayStation was difficult for him, and he was even worried his studio might suffer in some way as a result. Last week he unveiled the game’s cast and confirmed he still doesn’t know which engine the project will use; furthermore, Kojima disclosed plans to turn Physint into a full-fledged media franchise encompassing not only games but also movies, anime, and TV series.
The release date and platforms for Physint are currently unknown.
