Tidligere Rockstar Games-utvikler kaller GTA 6-lekkasjer et «lite feilsteg»
This week, GTA 6—the most anticipated game of recent years—has been hit (and continues to be hit) by the largest leak since autumn 2022. The hacker Cyberleek has already released 10 gameplay videos of the game and revealed a number of game features, which is particularly noteworthy in the context of 'Grand Theft Auto: An Extended Look'—the upcoming Netflix presentation of the game, scheduled for August 27. However, according to a former developer, this leak practically means nothing.
Obbe Vermeij, who served as technical director at Rockstar Games for many years, has responded to the leak of GTA 6 gameplay footage. On his X page, he wrote that despite the appearance of gameplay footage ahead of schedule, neither the game itself nor Rockstar’s position has suffered as a result. He drew an analogy with the "Hot Coffee" incident and predicted that, even with the current leak regarding the sixth installment, sales would remain high, describing the leak as “a tiny blip.” You can check out his full comments below:
Calm down everybody. The leaks are a nothing burger.
As a marketing strategy R* is trying to keep the game under wraps longer than other publishers. All that has happened is that some footage has escaped. Slightly ahead of the Netflix thing next week.
90% of future players don’t spend their time on the internet looking for video snippets. They don’t have the time and don’t want spoilers.
I imagine the teams are a little annoyed about it but not more than that. I was there during Hot Coffee. It was a nightmare for management (R*NewYork) but didn’t affect us (R*North) much. The current leaks are far less consequential than HC was.
It looks like gta6 will be phenomenal and sell for the next 15 years or so. The leaks are just a tiny blip.
Despite Vermeij’s comments, according to Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier, Rockstar is working hard to identify who Cyberleek is but has not yet succeeded. Furthermore, the developers’ morale is described as “frustrated and exhausted,” while studio executives are furious, as this is the second time such a massive leak has taken place—and, what’s more, new material continues to appear on the internet every day.
Meanwhile, two new GTA 6 gameplay videos have surfaced today—the ninth and tenth in the count. In the first of these, we see Jason driving through Leonida Keys and encountering one of the NPCs at a petrol station, and at the end we see part of a cutscene and the first mention of Lucia. In the latest, tenth video, Jason is already flying a plane over Vice City at night.
For now, you can also find out everything we know about GTA 6 so far—the story, gameplay, map, open world, platforms, and more - as well as how GTA 6 is reshaping the 2026 game calendar and everything about GTA 6 pre-order details: price, bonuses, exact time, and Ultimate Edition.
Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, the new official look at GTA 6, premieres on Netflix August 27 at 3 p.m. ET. You can also check out how and when to watch this major event. The game releases November 19 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
