Amazon Games bekreftet at Tomb Raider: Catalyst offisielt er utsatt til 2028

This summer, Crystal Dynamics officially confirmed that the studio’s next project—Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis, both a remake of the 1996 game and a reimagining— has joined the list of titles pushed back to 2027, despite originally being slated for this year. That's cast some doubt on how soon Tomb Raider: Catalyst, another new Lara Croft project, might arrive, but fans now at least know there is still a while to go before it launches.

Recently, Amazon Games head Jeffrey Gattis spoke with The Game Business, where he revealed that Tomb Raider: Catalyst is now slated to release in 2028, while confirming Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis—as Crystal Dynamics previously stated—will launch on February 12, 2027. As is known, Amazon Games is publishing both titles and is also building out a unified Lara Croft universe; a TV series based on the franchise is also in the works for Amazon Prime Video, with Sophie Turner, known for Game of Thrones and the X-Men films, in the lead role.

There is not much detail on Tomb Raider: Catalyst for now, except the fact the game will feature a fully open world and serve as a direct sequel to 2008's Tomb Raider: Underworld, instead of 2018's Shadow of the Tomb Raider.

At the same time, Crystal Dynamics Experience Director Jeff Adams has confirmed that Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis ties directly into the Survivor trilogy —he has even claimed the story takes place after those games, when Lara Croft is "in her prime." This way, the developers are looking to reimagine the game, and, as Legion Looterana previously suggested, unite all the timelines together. It's quite possible Legacy of Atlantis will also set up events for Catalyst's story and/or fold Underworld into canon—but that remains to be seen.

Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis will release on February 12, 2027, for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5. Tomb Raider: Catalyst will launch in 2028 for the same platforms—the exact release date is currently unknown.
