Sony kan utsette lanseringen av PlayStation 6 til 2028 eller 2029

Sony has yet to announce any official details about their next-generation console, the PlayStation 6. However, early rumors suggested that, similar to Microsoft's Project Helix, it could be released as soon as late next year. That said, a recent report indicates that the launch of both devices might be delayed indefinitely.

According to a recent financial report from Embracer, Sony may release the PlayStation 6 in 2028 or even 2029. The reason for potentially delaying the launch comes as no surprise: difficulties with securing components, particularly RAM, which could significantly increase the production costs of the consoles. The same issue might affect Microsoft's next-generation console, Project Helix. Although company representatives have stated that early versions of the device will reach developers in early 2027, its full launch may not happen until a year or two later.

Despite the delays, this scenario seems quite acceptable to most gamers, as it clearly means extended support for current-generation consoles—PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. It also gives Sony and Microsoft more time to enhance the PS6 and Project Helix. However, it's important to note that this information is unconfirmed and should be taken as a rumor.

As for the PlayStation 6 itself, Sony may reduce the console's RAM from 30 GB to 24 GB and utilize a 128-bit memory bus instead of a 160-bit one. This move would allow the company to lower the cost of the next-generation console, saving approximately 60 dollars on the production of each unit.

It was also previously reported that Sony aims to achieve ray tracing at 60 FPS on PlayStation 6, thanks to the AMD RDNA 5 architecture, and plans to add full backward compatibility with PS4 and PS5. Earlier rumors also indicated that the console could potentially run games at 4K resolution at 120 FPS.

Furthermore, Sony is rumored to be working on a new handheld console, Project Canis, which will cost approximately $500–700 and exceed the performance of the Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Ally X.
