Sony vurderer angivelig å redusere RAM til 24 GB på PlayStation 6

Sony has yet to officially announce any details regarding their upcoming next-generation console, the PlayStation 6. However, insider details surface online regularly, and a new report may leave players concerned, as it suggests a potential downgrade in specifications.

According to new information from insider KeplerL2, who has previously leaked potential details regarding the PlayStation 6, Sony is considering scaling back some of the console's specifications. Specifically, this involves reducing the RAM from 30 GB to 24 GB and utilizing a 128-bit memory bus instead of a 160-bit one. Such an approach will allow the company to significantly reduce the cost of the new-generation console, saving approximately 60 dollars on the production of each device. It is noted that this solution is also being considered due to ongoing market issues regarding RAM shortages and rising prices.

Nevertheless, Sony has not yet officially confirmed any details regarding the PlayStation 6 specifications, so this insider’s report should be taken as a rumor and considered with a grain of salt.

It was also previously reported that Sony aims to achieve ray tracing at 60 FPS on PlayStation 6, thanks to the AMD RDNA 5 architecture, and plans to add full backward compatibility with PS4 and PS5. Earlier rumors also indicated that the console could potentially run games at 4K resolution at 120 FPS. Furthermore, Sony is rumored to be working on a new handheld console, Project Canis, which will cost approximately $500–700 and exceed the performance of the Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Ally X.
