The remake of the original Splinter Cell title, confirmed by Ubisoft back in 2021, is still in development, and according to the latest report of gaming insider Tom Henderson, it has been pushed to 2027, though it was originally set to launch this year.

Ubisoft is going through a rough patch. Since launching its restructuring process, the company has canceled numerous games and implemented a series of layoffs. Among the most recent developments are the cancellation of the life simulation game Alterra, inspired by Animal Crossing, and the closure of Red Storm Entertainment.

Despite the challenges they faced, the studio is still working on numerous projects, including new games in the Far Cry, Assassin's Creed, and Ghost Recon franchises; the latter, incidentally, is set to be their next release following the launch of Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced.

In addition, work is still underway on an updated version of the Splinter Cell Remake, which, according to Tom Henderson, is now being developed from the ground up by Ubisoft Toronto using the Snowdrop engine—the same one used in Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Star Wars: Outlaws. The developers are also placing a strong emphasis on an updated lighting and shadow system, which directly impacts gameplay—a feature for which the 2002 original was renowned. The game’s storyline is also expected to undergo some changes and will likely be expanded. While the game will not feature an open world, many levels may be expanded to include new areas.

At the same time, today is the day for the official reveal of Ubisoft’s next title—Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, the remake of 2013’s Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. It is scheduled for 4PM UTC, 6PM CEST, and 9AM PDT, and the game is rumored to release on July 9 for PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
