Nytt action- og skrekkspill Alien Deathstorm avduket av Rebellion
Rebellion has announced a new first-person action horror game titled Alien Deathstorm. The project follows the studio's work on Atomfall and moves the setting to a remote off-world colony. Players assume the role of a combat engineer acting as a first responder proficient in search and rescue, demolitions, and engineering. The narrative centers on a colony overrun by extraterrestrial threats after a planetary catastrophe. This protagonist must investigate the ruins and manage the fallout of the titular event alone.
The official reveal took place during the Xbox Partner Preview live show. Rebellion design head Ben Fisher described the project as a hybrid of survival mechanics and shooter gameplay. The visual design draws from 1980s science fiction, prioritizing mechanical and analogue technology over modern touchscreen interfaces. This choice creates a chunky and lived-in aesthetic across the colony structures. The development team cited influences ranging from Lovecraftian cosmic horror to the visual style of era-specific VHS tapes.
The environment features a persistent threat known as the Deathstorm which functions as a planet-wide atmospheric cataclysm. This seasonal event produces hurricane-force winds capable of tearing apart the surrounding world. Players cannot fight this weather system and must instead learn to identify and seek appropriate shelter to survive the surges. I think the possibility that Alien Deathstorm might work the same magic as the studio's previous titles has me eager to give it a go. The game emphasizes second-to-second ballistic action while maintaining a layer of constant environmental danger.
Combat involves a power dynamic where players are not entirely defenseless against the enemy creatures. While the aliens pose a significant threat, the training of the protagonist allows for moments where the player becomes the hunter. The gameplay loop focuses on environmental discovery and resource management within the ravaged settlement. I see this as a focused effort to avoid trying to do too much while refining a specific survival-horror niche. The studio has launched a Steam listing for the title following the presentation.
"We’ve been inspired by the slightly more analogue world of 1980s sci-fi, which is much more mechanical keyboard than it is touchscreen. We think it’s given our colony a chunky, lived-in aesthetic that has a genuinely unique feel. We’ve taken influences from everything from Lovecraftian eldritch horror to 1980s VHS sci-fi, so we think that people will be intrigued by what we’ve built."
— Ben Fisher
"It’s a planet-wide, seasonal atmospheric cataclysm that has torn through the colony without warning, causing absolute havoc. The player will have to learn how and when to seek shelter, if they want to survive these hurricane force winds that are tearing the world around them apart."
— Ben Fisher
"An ‘action horror’ game with a layer of constant threat and environmental discovery that fully supports the second-to-second ballistic action."
— Ben Fisher
Rebellion has not yet established a specific release date or launch window for the game. The current information confirms the title will be a single-player experience focused on the struggle of one individual against the colony's collapse. The announcement marks a shift into high-concept science fiction for the UK-based developer. Technical details regarding specific platforms beyond the Xbox ecosystem and PC have not been fully disclosed. The project remains in active development with further updates expected through official studio channels and the live Steam page.
