Microsoft jobber med bakoverkompatibilitet for Xbox og Xbox 360 for PC
Earlier this month, Microsoft announced their new, next-gen Xbox console titled Project Helix. With not many official details known, we can be sure this device will be powerful and truly ‘next-gen,’ and we can expect the potential launch is still possible in 2027, in the best scenario.
Moreover, it seems like the company is planning to make yet another big move this year, and they could have an ace up their sleeve. Jason Ronald, who was present at the Game Developers Conference, where he revealed the first details of Project Helix, has teased that PC gamers might receive backward compatibility support with OG Xbox and Xbox 360 libraries. During the interview he stated that “some iconic games from the past are now going to be able to be played in entirely new ways.”
Although it’s not a direct message that PC users will have a possibility to run Xbox and Xbox 360 games, gaming insider NateTheHate confirmed Microsoft has such plans, as he revealed via ResetEra. You can check out his words below:
“This has been their goal for over a year. I think I made a comment about it before, but the MS back-compat team has wanted to bring & make your OG Xbox and Xbox 360 digital library playable on PC.”
This report must be really exciting for all PC gamers, as soon they will be able to play some iconic titles, they were never able to. For instance, there are such video games as the original Saints Row, Fable 2, some of the Gears of War titles—Gears of War 2, Gears of War 3, and Gears of War: Judgment, Battlefield: Bad Company, Dante’s Inferno, and more.
So far, Microsoft hasn’t made any announcements about backward compatibility support for PC, but, according to Jason Ronald, it might happen later this year.
For now, you can check out everything we know so far about Project Helix here. Also, Microsoft recently confirmed Xbox Game Pass for March 2026, which includes some big-name titles such as Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Cyberpunk 2077, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, and more.
