There are some speculations about the next AAA video games based on The Lord of the Rings universe. Last September, Insider Gaming shared an exclusive report about the upcoming title, which revealed the game’s budget is about $100 million and it will be a third-person open-world action game to compete with Hogwarts Legacy.

The game still hasn’t been officially announced, however, an X social media account called Daily Middle Earth, which provides information on Tolkien’s famous universe, has shared the new information on the upcoming video game. Specifically, it gives some promising updates about the game’s open world, which is about to be realistic and detailed, as you can check below:

“New LOTR Game: From the Shire to Mordor — Middle-earth, fully open world

A new open world The Lord of the Rings game is rumored to let players traverse the entire map with no barriers, no loading corridors, and no artificial limits. Rolling through the peaceful hills of the Shire, crossing Rivendell’s valleys, braving the depths of Moria, riding across Rohan, and finally reaching the shadow of Mordor all as one seamless world.

This isn’t about following a single path. It’s about living in Middle-earth. Choosing your own routes, discovering forgotten ruins, encountering dangers off the beaten road, and shaping your story through exploration and choice. Weather, day night cycles, dynamic encounters, and large-scale conflicts could make the world feel truly alive.

If done right, this won’t just be a game it’ll be the closest fans have ever come to walking through Tolkien’s world.”

Unfortunately, this information should be considered with a grain of salt, as none of it has been confirmed. However, if that report is true, we can get a colossal video game based on The Lord of the Rings franchise. Moreover, a recent report from Warner Bros. Discovery lead JB Perrette suggests Warner Bros. Games (which owns the rights to The Lord of the Rings) will present a new game from the “biggest franchises” in the next 2 years. Of course, it might be the sequel to Hogwarts Legacy, which is confirmed to be in development, but also this Lord of the Rings video game.
