Mewgenics-utviklere bekrefter planer for fremtidig launcher og eventuell mod-støtte
Co-developer Tyler Glaiel has confirmed that Mewgenics will eventually receive mod support. Answering questions on the social media platform X, Glaiel stated that Steam Workshop integration and an official launcher are on the team's mind for the popular indie release. The confirmation follows the game's explosive launch, which has made it one of the most talked-about independent titles of 2026. While no official announcement has been made, the developer's comments point toward a long-term plan for user-generated content, starting with the keyword "eventually."
The team also rolled out patch 1.0.20695, the first significant update since launch, while confirming plans for the game's first DLC. The expansion is in the early stages of development. This news comes after the game reached number one sales on Steam globally, surpassing established titles like Counter-Strike 2 and Helldivers 2. The cat-breeding tactical roguelite, developed by Glaiel and Edmund McMillen, recouped its entire budget within three hours of its release. This success demonstrates a massive level of player interest after a 14-year development cycle.
The timeline for mod support remains distant. The developers have suggested the first DLC could take more than a year to complete, placing Steam Workshop integration on a far-off horizon. A potential first step could be an official launcher, which might arrive earlier to lay the groundwork. Glaiel referenced the launcher built for The End Is Nigh, but noted that a new alternative may need to be constructed from scratch to accommodate Steam Deck verification. I see this as a long-term plan that respects the development cycle. For now, the team's focus is on more pressing issues.
Glaiel is currently working on implementing language support and other immediate fixes for the game. Players will need to be patient for larger content additions. The base game is a massive experience, filled with extensive replayability in its core XCOM-inspired loop. I do think the sheer amount of existing content gives the developers plenty of breathing room to work on future updates without rushing. The game’s design offers a deep well of possibilities that will keep players engaged for a long time before new material becomes a necessity.
