Square Enix officially kicked off Final Fantasy 14’s 2026 content cycle on January 27 with the release of Patch 7.41, the first major update of the year for the long-running MMORPG. Following a scheduled five-hour maintenance window, the update went live across all regions, expanding two of Dawntrail’s most important long-term systems — Cosmic Exploration and Phantom Weapons — while also introducing a surprise balance adjustment to the Summoner Job.

Although Patch 7.41 is positioned as a mid-cycle update, its scope makes it particularly meaningful for both endgame-focused players and returning subscribers, especially with Square Enix currently running a Free Login Campaign.

Context: What Led Up to Patch 7.41

Patch 7.41 arrives just over a month after Patch 7.4, “Into the Mist,” which marked a major milestone in the Dawntrail expansion’s progression.

Patch 7.4 delivered several key additions:

  • New Main Scenario Quests, advancing Dawntrail’s central narrative
  • The third and final tier of the Arcadion raid series, known as Heavyweight
  • A staggered raid rollout, with:Normal mode launching in mid-December
  • Savage mode following on January 6

However, the Savage release was unfortunately disrupted by DDoS attacks targeting North American data centers, leading to instability and degraded performance during the opening progression window. While the situation negatively impacted raiders, Square Enix confirmed that mitigation efforts were largely successful by January 7, stabilizing the experience going forward.

Patch 7.41 Expands FF14’s Endgame Systems

Rather than introducing brand-new systems, Patch 7.41 focuses on deepening existing Dawntrail features, particularly those designed to support long-term progression.

Phantom Weapons: The Next Evolution

High-level combat players can now continue their Phantom Weapon journey, with the next stage of the questline officially unlocked.

Key details include:

  • A three-quest continuation, beginning with “Timeworn Techniques”
  • The quest is accepted from Lydirceil in the Phantom Village
  • The Phantom Village becomes accessible via Tuliyollal, assuming players have completed the Phantom Weapon introduction from Patch 7.25

In addition to the primary weapon upgrade path:

  • Completing “A Phantom Reborn” grants one enhanced Phantom Weapon tied to the job used during progression
  • Players can enhance additional Phantom Weapons by trading Waning Arcanite to Dodokkuli
  • Waning Arcanite is obtained through Allagan Tomestones of Mathematics, reinforcing the system’s endgame loop

⚠️ Important restriction: Phantom Weapon quests must be completed using the same class or job with which the quest was accepted.

Cosmic Exploration Expands to Oizys

For crafters and gatherers, Patch 7.41 opens an entirely new destination as part of the Cosmic Exploration initiative.

By starting the quest “Mission of Gravity” in Phaenna, players join Searchingway and the loporrits on an expedition to Oizys, a mysterious planet defined by:

  • Ancient ruins
  • Unstable and unusual gravitational effects
  • Server-wide progression objectives

Much like previous Cosmic Exploration locations:

  • Players on the same World must work together
  • New areas, objectives, and systems unlock gradually over time
  • Progress is tracked through credits, standings, and contribution rankings

Oizys Progression Systems at a Glance

While exploring Oizys, players engage with several layered progression mechanics:

Currencies and Rewards

  • Oizys CreditsEarned through stellar missions and projects
  • Used for mech op applications and cosmic fortunes
  • Oizys Exploration TokensAwarded for EX+ stellar missions
  • Exchangeable for a special mount, which is also marketboard-tradable

Starward Standings ⭐

  • Contribution scores now only count activity on Oizys
  • Rankings are based on:Stellar missions
  • Mech ops
  • Planetary development projects
  • Top contributors receive:A hologram display on Oizys
  • Name recognition on the Starward Standings stela
  • A unique visual effect in cosmic exploration zones

Artifact Search and Cosmic Tool Enhancements 🔧

Patch 7.41 further deepens Cosmic Exploration with the addition of Artifact Search missions, allowing players to:

  • Earn dronebits through Class A, EX, and provisional missions
  • Convert dronebits into drone modules
  • Deploy reconnaissance drones to locate artifacts
  • Recover and appraise ancient records

Meanwhile, Cosmic Tools for Disciples of the Hand and Land can now be further enhanced, with research data earned through stellar missions — even if the tools themselves are not equipped.

Surprise Job Balance: Summoner Gets Buffed

One of Patch 7.41’s most unexpected changes arrives in the Battle System, specifically targeting the Summoner Job.

Following Patch 7.4’s Red Mage adjustments, Summoner participation in high-end raids dropped noticeably. Square Enix addressed this by boosting Summoner’s burst damage, bringing it closer in line with other magical ranged DPS options.

Summoner Buffs in Patch 7.41

  • Searing Flash: 600 → 700
  • Umbral Impulse: 620 → 640
  • Umbral Flare: 280 → 300
  • Sunflare: 800 → 1,000

No other job changes were included, making this a highly targeted balance pass rather than a full rework.

Additional System Updates and Quality-of-Life Improvements 🛠️

Patch 7.41 also includes:

  • Echo enabled in AAC Cruiserweight Tier (Savage), granting:+10% HP
  • +10% damage
  • +10% healing
  • Visual clarity improvements in AAC Heavyweight encounters
  • New:Furnishings
  • Orchestrion rolls
  • Triple Triad cards
  • Emote/stomp
  • Mounts, minions, facewear, and achievements

Server congestion on Oizys is addressed through temporary multiple field instances, while older zones return to single-instance layouts.

Why Patch 7.41 Matters for Returning Players

Patch 7.41 launches during FF14’s Free Login Campaign, running until February 9.

Returning players receive:

  • 96 free hours of playtime
  • Time continues counting even while logged out
  • Full access to new Patch 7.41 content for Dawntrail owners

This makes the update an ideal re-entry point, especially with Phantom Weapon progression and Cosmic Exploration expansion now available.
