Profesjonell Mortal Kombat returnerer: Utviklere kunngjør MK Pro Competition 2025-serien

Mortal Kombat can be considered one of the most iconic fighting games and also one of the most commercially successful. Anyone who has ever played any installment of this series understands how captivating and engaging it is, making it constantly enjoyable to play. It is no surprise that Mortal Kombat has become a part of esports. However, its success in the esports scene has not been as pronounced. Although tournaments were held, they failed to attract large prize pools and broad audience reach like some well-known titles.

In 2024, the situation began to improve, and Mortal Kombat 1 started gaining momentum in professional esports. Over the year, top-tier tournaments featured prize pools amounting to nearly $300,000, which significantly exceeded the prize funds of previous years. In 2025, the developers decided to continue promoting Mortal Kombat in the esports arena.

The Announcement of the MK Pro Competition 2025 Series

As mentioned earlier, Mortal Kombat 1 has been regaining popularity, with high-level tournaments now being organized. In this context, NetherRealm Studios announced the MK Pro Competition 2025 series, marking the beginning of a resurgence for professional Mortal Kombat.

In 2025, the series will feature 10 offline tournaments, regional online qualifiers such as International Kombat, Liga Latina, North American League, and a final event, Final Kombat 2025. The series kicks off with the Mortal Kombat 1 Pro Kompetition México, starting on February 22. Notably, the total prize pool for the series is $255,000, reflecting the developers' serious intentions to re-establish the game as a prominent professional esports discipline.

Tournament Format

The first stage will be the qualifiers, divided into 3 regions: North American League (United States & Canada), Interkontinental Kombat (Europe, Middle East and Oceania), and Liga Latina (Latin America).

In total, 20 players qualify for Final Kombat:

• The Top 8 players on the global leaderboard
• The winner of Evo 2025
• 2 qualifications via the North American League Regional Finals
• 4 qualifications via the Interkontinental Kombat Regional Finals
• 4 qualifications via the Liga Latina Regional Finals
• The winner of the Last Chance Qualifier
