Overwatch 2's RED Tokyo Tower Collaboration Sparks Fan Demand for New Hero Skins
The recent collaboration between Overwatch 2 and Japan's RED Tokyo Tower digital theme park has introduced some fresh new hero looks that fans are eager to see brought into the game. Currently, players are enjoying Season 12's Egyptian mythology battle pass, which introduced a Mythic skin for Reaper and new skins for heroes like Doomfist and Illari. However, despite their strong connection to Egyptian lore, Ana and Pharah were not included in the battle pass but did receive new cosmetics available for purchase in the in-game shop.
Last week, Overwatch 2 unveiled its unique partnership with Tokyo's RED Tokyo Tower, a digital theme park. This real-life event focuses on merchandising, offering fans a variety of collectible items featuring popular Japanese heroes from the game, such as Hanzo, Genji, and Kiriko. Fans attending the event can find T-shirts, buttons, posters, desk mats, and other fun memorabilia, all of which center on these beloved characters. Notably, unlike other collaborations like the LE SSERAFIM and Porsche events, this RED Tokyo Tower collaboration does not include any new in-game items or skins.
However, fans have gotten a glimpse of some exciting new designs through a set of postcards available at the event. The postcards feature characters such as Cassidy, Tracer, D.Va, Kiriko, and Lucio sporting trendy, modern streetwear. These new outfits include stylish jackets for D.Va, Tracer, and Kiriko, a large white hoodie and oversized shorts for Lucio, and a casual black and brown outfit for Cassidy. Fans on Reddit have been vocal about how much they'd love to see these designs as skins in the game, hoping that Blizzard will eventually add them.
Despite the excitement, there are hints that these outfits may never make it into the game. Lucio’s new look, for example, replaces his signature skates with regular shoes, which could be a deal-breaker. Additionally, the new looks for D.Va, Tracer, and Kiriko closely resemble their base Overwatch 2 skins, making it harder to imagine them being added as new content. Even so, these streetwear designs would likely be a hit among players. Although there is no official indication that Blizzard will bring these outfits into the game, fans continue to hold out hope.
In addition to the RED Tokyo Tower collaboration, Overwatch 2 is also preparing for its upcoming crossover with World of Warcraft, set to go live this week. In celebration of World of Warcraft's 20th anniversary, the event will introduce several new skins to Overwatch 2, including Lich King Reinhardt, Sylvanas Windrunner Widowmaker, Thrall Zenyatta, and more.
