Riftbound Unleashed avslører Kha’Zix-kort og nytt XP-system

Riftbound may not have had the strongest launch, but the game has been steadily gaining traction within the TCG community. By the end of 2025, it had built solid player numbers and sales, and now it’s looking to build on that momentum with its upcoming Unleashed expansion. The new set will introduce more League of Legends characters and mechanics, launching in April (Chinese version) and May (English version).

One of Riftbound’s strengths is its ability to stand apart from major competitors like Magic: The Gathering, offering its own identity while staying true to the League of Legends universe.

Kha’Zix Card Revealed Ahead of Unleashed

Ahead of the expansion’s release, a new card has been revealed: Kha’Zix, Mutating Horror. This Chaos (purple) Champion Unit is an Epic rarity card that costs 4 to play and comes with 4 Might.

The card introduces the new Ambush ability, allowing it to be played as a reaction during battles if friendly units are already present. It also gains +2 Might when attacking or defending if there is only one enemy unit on the battlefield, making it particularly effective in isolated engagements.

New XP System Adds Strategic Depth

The Unleashed expansion also introduces a new XP mechanic, allowing players to generate and spend experience as a resource. Kha’Zix, Mutating Horror contributes to this system by generating XP, even though it doesn’t spend it directly.

A second version of the character, Kha’Zix, Voidreaver, makes full use of this mechanic. It can spend XP to buff units or reposition allies, adding more flexibility to Chaos-based strategies.

Level-Based Progression for Cards

XP ties into a broader progression system where cards become stronger as levels increase. Some units gain new abilities or reduced costs at certain XP thresholds.

For example, Master Yi, Tempered unlocks additional effects once enough XP is accumulated, while Master Yi, Unstoppable becomes significantly cheaper and more powerful at higher levels, eventually becoming immune to enemy targeting at the highest tier.

A Promising Addition to the Meta

Even without direct XP spending abilities, Kha’Zix, Mutating Horror stands out as a strong mid-cost option thanks to its scaling power and synergy with the new system. Whether it will become a meta-defining card remains to be seen, but it clearly showcases the strategic direction Riftbound is taking with its next expansion.
