League of Legends Revives Honoring Opponents: Big Changes Coming to the Honor System
Riot Games recently confirmed in a developer update that League of Legends will soon reintroduce the ability to honor opponents after a match. As one of the most popular online games globally, the Riot Games MOBA has seen many changes in player interaction since its release. Riot previously featured "Clubs," allowing players to team up with friends in-game, and has continuously worked on improving player communication within League of Legends. Now, Riot is bringing back a classic feature to the game's Honor system.
League of Legends' Honor system has undergone significant changes since its initial introduction. Players can honor one teammate after each match, with a progression system that rewards players as they increase their Honor levels. The system has evolved over time, and players used to be able to honor all teammates and even mark opponents as "Honorable Opponent" after a match. Now, Riot appears to be reviving this key feature.
According to ComicBook, a recent "Dev Update" from Riot Games confirmed that the ability to honor opponents will soon return to League of Legends. While the video did not provide specific details about the upcoming update, Riot Games' Andrei "Meddler" van Roon confirmed that players will soon be able to honor opponents as well as multiple teammates. The developer hinted that more information on the Honor system overhaul would be shared soon, with the changes expected to roll out in September.
League of Legends Is Bringing Back Honoring Opponents
The update to League of Legends' Honor system is just one of several changes discussed in the developer video. Riot Games addressed various adjustments related to player behavior, particularly focusing on changes to the game's "behavioral systems" and "stream sniping." The video also mentioned upcoming tweaks to reduce the dominance of "AD Carry" Champions and teased future updates to game modes like Arena and Swarm.
The forthcoming changes to the Honor system aim to improve the environment of a game that has gained a reputation over the years for its toxic community. League of Legends, known for its highly team-dependent gameplay, has struggled with player toxicity, and Riot Games has taken numerous steps in both League of Legends and its other titles like Valorant to combat negative behavior. These new updates are designed to help players show greater respect and appreciation for their fellow competitors.
