A24s Elden Ring-film vil koste nesten 200 millioner dollar, noe som gjør den til studioets dyreste film noensinne.

The budget for the Elden Ring movie is nearly $200 million, according to The Wall Street Journal. That makes the adaptation the most expensive film in the history of A24, a studio best known for relatively low-budget auteur projects.

A24’s previous record belonged to Marty Supreme, with a budget of around $70 million, and before that, Civil War at roughly $50 million. In other words, Elden Ring’s budget is almost triple the studio’s previous record. Because of that, some outlets are already saying that at this scale, A24 is gradually ceasing to be the indie studio audiences knew.

The film is written and directed by Alex Garland, known for Ex Machina, Annihilation, and Civil War. Its producers include George R. R. Martin, who helped create the world of the original game. A24, DNA Films, and Bandai Namco Filmworks are behind the film.

The cast includes Kit Connor, Cailee Spaeny, Ben Whishaw, Nick Offerman, Tom Burke, Havana Rose Liu, Sonoya Mizuno, Emma Laird, Peter Serafinowicz, and Jonathan Pryce. Filming began in April 2026 in the UK, including Scotland and Wales, and some scenes were shot in Iceland over the summer. The shoot is planned to last about 100 days. The premiere is set for March 3, 2028, and in the US, the film will also be shown in IMAX.

Interestingly, the adaptation came about largely thanks to Garland himself. In June 2024, FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki said the studio was open to an Elden Ring adaptation if the right partner came along. Garland, a fan of the game, wrote a 160-page script backed by another 40 pages of visual concepts. A24 then flew the director to Japan to sign a deal with FromSoftware, and in May 2025, the studio officially confirmed the film was in the works.

Elden Ring launched in February 2022 and became one of FromSoftware’s most successful games. In total, it has sold over 36 million copies and won Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2022.
