Alt om søvnløshet avslørt på Marvels Wolverine SDCC-panel

San Diego Comic-Con 2026 gave Marvel's Wolverine fans a proper look at the game, and Insomniac used its Hall H panel to unload a stack of reveals. Insomniac's creative director Marcus Smith, game director Mike Daly, and narrative director Walt Williams fronted the session alongside cast and Marvel Games. The PlayStation 5 exclusive, out September 15, showed up with a new story trailer, a surprise fighting-game crossover, a composer reveal, and a lot more detail on its cast and villains.

  • A new story trailer that frames Jean Grey as a potential love interest and shows off Sabretooth and Lady Deathstrike.
  • A surprise crossover, Marvel's Wolverine X Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, with a Tokon-inspired suit you unlock in-game and Wolverine's Battle Reborn suit heading to Tokon on September 1.
  • The soundtrack composer, award-winning David Fleming, with the full soundtrack out August 28, 2026.
  • A just-announced prequel comic covering Team X's raid on Bolivar Trask's base, with part one free on Marvel Unlimited.
  • The Hand, a demon-worshipping ninja cult led by Lady Deathstrike, who drags Logan's story to Japan.
  • Trask Industries as a central threat, backed by the cybernetically enhanced Reavers.
  • No X-Men in this universe; instead Team X, a 1960s spec-ops group founded by Nathaniel Essex, with Mystique among its ranks.
  • Insomniac's take on Logan himself: claw-first combat, healing factor, heightened senses, and a story about recovering lost memories rather than an origin.

Insomniac laid all of this out during its panel in Hall H, covered live thanks to IGN, which reported each reveal as it landed on the show floor.

The centerpiece was a new story trailer, the second big trailer beat after the earlier Marvel's Wolverine cinematic trailer. Where that clip was a mood piece, this one leans into the plot, setting up Logan's arc around recovering his memory and protecting mutants, and teasing a bond between him and Jean Grey.

Jean Grey, played by Krizia Bajos, has been on her own in this world, trying to build a safe place for mutants because the X-Men do not exist here. When she meets Logan, Bajos describes a cosmic connection, someone who can see past his walls. Fans have also seized on a trailer shot where the camera locks behind Jean as Logan holds a door, reading it as a hint she could be a second playable character. The playable-Jean question has history: a big 2023 leak suggested she would be playable, Insomniac later said Logan is the only playable character, and this trailer moment has reopened the debate. Either the studio is holding its cards, or a playable-Jean mode was cut somewhere in development.

Everything Insomniac Revealed at the Marvel's Wolverine SDCC Panel 1

The just-announced Wolverine’s prequel comic, written by narrative director Walt Williams, fills in the setup. It follows Wolverine and Team X, including Sabretooth, Mystique, and Sunfire, as they infiltrate Sentinel-maker Bolivar Trask's base and find something that tears the team apart. Part one is free on Marvel Unlimited, and it explains why Logan starts the game having walked away from Team X three years earlier.

The villains got real texture. Trask Industries is the central threat, with creative director Marcus Smith framing Trask as proof that a billionaire with unlimited resources and a fixed opinion can do a lot of damage, then sending the cybernetically enhanced Reavers after mutants.

"It turns out that having unlimited resources and a strong opinion can lead to some bad things."

— Marcus Smith

Logan also tangles with The Hand, the demon-worshipping ninja cult now led by Lady Deathstrike, a fight that eventually pulls him to Japan.

The universe framing matters too. Marvel Games' Eric Monacelli confirmed the X-Men simply do not exist in Earth-1048, the shared setting of Insomniac's Marvel games, so the studio invented Team X, a spec-ops outfit formed in the 1960s by Nathaniel Essex to counter Trask. Logan left the group three years before the game begins, on tense terms, leaving Essex feeling abandoned and now angry that Wolverine is back. Mystique rides along because Team X is one of the few places mutants can drop the disguise and be themselves.

On the moment-to-moment side, game director Mike Daly framed this as the ultimate Wolverine fantasy, built around claw combat, the healing factor, heightened senses, and the weight of his heavy skeleton, with the story peeling back his lost memories rather than retelling an origin; the goal, as Daly put it, is a single feeling:

"I feel like Wolverine!"

It is also brutal, and Insomniac has said players will be able to customize the level of blood, gore, dismemberment, and profanity to their comfort. Liam McIntyre, who voices Logan, said he prepped by watching footage of rabid dogs and called the role the biggest honor of his life, and Williams praised his performance as one of the rawest he has seen in games. Unlike Insomniac's open-world Spider-Man titles, Wolverine is built as a tighter, linear game closer in shape to God of War or Tomb Raider.

The crossover itself runs both ways: Insomniac loved Wolverine's look in Arc System Works' Marvel Tōkon, so it built a suit inspired by it, unlocked by stepping into a Japanese arcade, and in return Wolverine's Battle Reborn suit joins Tokon on September 1. Rounding out the panel, award-winning composer David Fleming is scoring the game, with a track set to go live the same day and the full soundtrack due August 28. The panel closed on a lightning round of hopes: Smith wants players to feel powerful, Reiner-Reed is excited for the suits, Daly hyped Wolverine's Berserker Rage, and Monacelli called these his favorite versions of the characters.

To me, Wolverine looks like a great action game for a few pizza evenings, and I can see it slotting in cleanly as a solid piece of Insomniac's portfolio. But the Spider-Man games were about as good as superhero games get, and after them I feel like I have had my fill of Insomniac doing capes. What I would love to see next is the studio betting on something that is not a superhero game at all.
