Although Sony shut down the online project Concord, developed and released by Firewalk Studios in 2024, just a week after its official launch, the company still plans to actively support its live service games. This was stated by Hideaki Nishino, president of Sony Interactive Entertainment, in a recent interview.

Recently, Nishino spoke with representatives of the Japanese publication Famitsu, stating that Sony still sees great potential in live service games and has no plans to stop developing in this area. The highlights from his interview you can check out below:

"We believe that live service games are content that attracts users on a global level, so we want to continue to revitalize the market through both first-party and third-party content. We are not only focusing on promoting new releases, but also considering what we can do with older titles in the medium to long term. Also, this year we are planning to release our own live service title, MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls, and we hope everyone will enjoy it.

With live service games, it's important to continuously provide something. The genre itself is relatively new, and I think many people are trying various things, so we also want to continue to take on challenges within that context."

Earlier this year, it was reported that Sony had high hopes for a new online shooter called Fairgame$, currently being developed by Haven Studios. However, according to initial feedback from those who had the chance to test the game, it has so far been, to put it mildly, underwhelming. Additionally, insiders suggested that Fairgame$ would be showcased during the State of Play presentation on June 2, citing Sony's registration of a new trademark titled Brake In —but that never happened. It’s quite possible that the developers are now rethinking the project, though there hasn’t been any news about it in recent months.
