NieR-utviklerne benektet rykter om NieR: Automata-oppfølgeren
This February, Nier: Automata sold 10 million copies, which was confirmed by Square Enix in a special video dedicated to the game’s ninth anniversary. The fans were also excited as the clip ends with a teaser of the game’s sequel. However, the franchise producer confirmed it turned out to be a fake or, if you like, a marketing move.
In a recent interview with Famitsu, as revealed by Genki_JPN, NieR developers Yoko Taro (Automata game’s director) and Yosuke Taro (producer) revealed more information about a mystery teaser at the end of the video. Specifically, Yoko Taro stated that this message was aimed at the studio continuing “to milk it, we're going to make money.” At the same time, Yosuke Taro revealed that it was his idea to put “NieR: Automata to be continued...” in a video, though he has no idea about the potential development of the game, as you can check out below:
"I was the one who asked them to include that. I don’t know if there is a continuation or not, but I felt that “to be continued...” was absolutely necessary for the 9th-anniversary video. To end on the 9th anniversary number is not a good stopping point, so I'd like to continue until the 10th anniversary."
It’s curious that developers never mentioned the possible teaser of another NieR video game - Nier: Cosmic Horror, which was revealed on April 1. Most likely, it was just an April Fool's joke, since neither Square Enix nor Platinum Games has commented on it since then.
