Last week, Beethoven & Dinosaur studio released their new title—Mixtape. It’s a new indie-adventure game that tells the story about three friends—Stacy Rockford, Van Slater, and Cassandra Morino—who intend to organize a party on the occasion of the upcoming graduation from school.

A few hours before the official release, Mixtape received rave reviews from critics, who called the game one of the best of 2026, despite its short length - it can be completed in a few hours. Nevertheless, according to gaming media, Mixtape has an excellent story with many emotional moments, a pleasing visual side, well-developed characters, and a soundtrack that perfectly complements the game.

Despite a lot of warm words, ordinary players were not so impressed with the game. In particular, the main complaints, apart from the short duration, also lie in the gameplay, since Mixtape does not offer any variability or choices that affect the further development of the plot. In addition, there is also noted an almost complete lack of interactivity, which is very important in projects of this genre.

Moreover, Mixtape found itself at the center of a scandal related to the gaming media outlet, IGN. The game received a 10/10 review, which has been added to the collection of 'dubious' games, such as Marathon and Dragon Age: The Veilguard, with high rating from IGN. According to many players, is a huge exaggeration. Especially in light of the fact that other equally high-quality projects, such as Crimson Desert, Lollipop Chainsaw, and Stellar Blade, as mentioned below, received much lower scores from the media.

“This is an interesting pattern in IGN reviews. It appears they give better reviews to games that "don't appeal to the male gaze," a term these gaming journos have fabricated.

Games for "gentlemen" made for gamers with no political agendas always get worse reviews, apparently.

I don’t trust them at all, they seem to inflate scores for games that fit their agendas or that paid them.”

At the same time, the official Xbox account on X responded to the criticism of Mixtape by writing the following:

“Reminder: just because you're not personally into a game, doesn't mean it's a bad game”
