South Parks nyeste episode bringer Arc Raiders inn i historien
Arc Raiders made an unexpected appearance in the newest South Park episode, underscoring both the game’s current reach and the show’s accelerated production cycle. The cameo arrives as the extraction shooter continues its strong run across PC and consoles, where it has already surpassed four million copies sold and recently drew more than 700,000 concurrent players. Its placement in “Turkey Trot,” the Season 28 episode that aired this week, extends the game’s presence beyond the gaming world and into one of television’s longest-running animated series.
In the episode, Cartman walks in on Tolkien Black playing Arc Raiders on an Xbox. The game appears multiple times, including a scene showing direct gameplay footage. The inclusion came together at a pace that aligns with how South Park has often operated. According to Embark Studios marketing lead Ashley St. Germain, the production reached out early in the week to request clearance. Footage went over the next day, and the episode featuring it arrived the following evening.
“There’s a lot to be thankful for this year, but I don’t know how I’m going to top this week,” St. Germain wrote in a LinkedIn post explaining the exchange. “On Monday South Park inquired if a character could play ARC Raiders in an upcoming episode, on Tuesday we provided footage, and on Wednesday we were in S28’s ‘Turkey Trot’ episode.” — Ashley St. Germain
The tight turnaround reflects a long-standing pattern for creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone. For much of the show’s run, the pair produced episodes in a weekly sprint, often completing them just before broadcast. The method allowed the show to stay close to current events but left little room for delays. Season 27 shifted to a biweekly schedule to add more breathing room, though it also produced timing issues of its own. The season’s final episode was postponed hours before air due to unfinished work. Parker and Stone accepted responsibility in a message released through Variety, noting that the team simply could not complete the episode in time.

South Park has missed a scheduled air date only once before this, due to a power outage. The near lapse in Season 27 highlighted the strain of the previous model and illustrated why outside elements, such as a cameo from a contemporary video game, often fall into place only at the last moment. Even so, the decision to fold Arc Raiders into “Turkey Trot” landed smoothly, matching the episode’s focus on local funding problems and quick visual gags.
The show has a long record of integrating video games into its stories. World of Warcraft remains the most recognizable example, but the series has also featured Counter-Strike, Rock Band, Call of Duty, and cameos from other industry mainstays. These appearances tend to mirror the cultural climate of the moment, and Arc Raiders’ current momentum made it a natural fit. The game has held significant attention since launch and recently issued a patch aimed at improving balance, including the removal of an exploit that affected close-quarter encounters. Its presence in South Park signals sustained interest from players and creators alike.
“Turkey Trot” arrives near the end of the season, with one final episode scheduled to air on December 10. The cameo closes a cycle that once again shows how quickly Parker and Stone can respond to topical elements, even while working within a more flexible production schedule. Arc Raiders, meanwhile, maintains its place in the broader spotlight as both a commercial success and a recognizable cultural reference.
