Hades 2s hemmelige nye karakter gjør narr av at nektar blir byttet mot minnesmerker

Supergiant Games has quietly slipped a familiar face into Hades 2. Players who finish the main story and dive into the postgame can now encounter Zagreus, the original protagonist from the first Hades, in a set of encounters that not only expand the lore but also poke fun at one of the series’ most recognizable mechanics — gifting Nectar and Ambrosia for Keepsakes.

The addition comes in the game’s 1.0 release, where Melinoe, the new lead character, gains access to fresh endgame content. By accepting an Infernal Contract, she can face off against Zagreus in Elysium, leading to a long-awaited sibling clash. This isn’t just a one-time fight either. Players can attempt the battle multiple times, unlocking new dialogue exchanges that shed light on what has happened between the events of the two games.

Here's Hades 2 review from a major media outlet.

Victory against Zagreus earns Melinoe a Keepsake directly from him, a reward that doubles as a meta-joke. In his own words, he claims he had “always wanted” to give one. This line is a deliberate nod to how players often farm Keepsakes by repeatedly handing out Nectar in both games.

The humor extends further when Melinoe suggests they should be “sharing Ambrosia” instead of clashing endlessly in combat. Zagreus counters that there’s no reason to, since she already has his Keepsake. His remark is a clear acknowledgment of how players approach the relationship system, boiling it down to trading drinks of the gods for tangible bonuses.

"As for the Ambrosia, you've already got a Keepsake from me, so no need!" — Zagreus

This playful back-and-forth highlights how self-aware Hades 2 is about its systems. The developers recognize that many players see Nectar and Ambrosia as straightforward currencies, despite the larger narrative context around them. By letting Zagreus voice this perspective, the game bridges the gap between player behavior and in-game dialogue in a way few RPGs attempt.

Beyond the jokes, the encounters between Melinoe and Zagreus serve a deeper purpose. They expand on family dynamics, provide new insight into what happened after the first game, and give dedicated players a chance to engage with more layered storytelling. It also reinforces how both protagonists — though trapped in the cycle of roguelike gameplay — are written as aware of their own endless struggles.

The inclusion of Zagreus shows Supergiant’s commitment to connecting the sequel with its predecessor while keeping the tone sharp. Fans expecting a straightforward continuation instead find a clever mix of narrative payoff and tongue-in-cheek commentary. With the postgame now offering these exchanges, Hades 2 continues to blend rewarding gameplay loops with character-driven storytelling that directly addresses how players interact with its mechanics.

For longtime fans, Zagreus’ return isn’t just a callback. It’s a playful expansion of the world that reminds players why the first Hades became such a standout in the roguelike genre, and why the sequel continues to push boundaries both in narrative design and meta-awareness.
