NetEase Games has announced that their open-world action-survival game, Once Human, will soon be getting mobile controller support. The game officially launched this month, following early access in Canada back in 2021 and several rounds of closed beta testing, with the most recent beta held in February 2025 for mobile devices.

Explore a Massive Post-Apocalyptic World

Once Human is a multiplayer survival experience set in a post-apocalyptic world tainted by an alien substance known as Stardust. Players take on the role of Meta-Humans, beings who can harness Stardust’s powers to fight for survival, rebuild civilization, or even dominate the new world order.

The game offers a vast, seamless 256 km² map, featuring a wide range of environments — from frozen tundras to active volcanic regions. Players can establish bases, collect and safeguard loot, craft weapons and traps for defense, and even gather unique creatures known as Deviation Pals.

Controller Support is on the Way

In response to a fan’s question on X (formerly Twitter), the developers confirmed that mobile controller support is actively in development and will be released soon. They stated:

"We’re already working on mobile controller support, and it will be released soon."

This is welcome news for players who were disappointed by the lack of controller compatibility at launch. Many fans expressed frustration with touchscreen controls, so the upcoming update should significantly improve the gameplay experience. However, an exact release date has not yet been provided.

Even More Content is Coming in 2025

The upcoming controller support is just one piece of a broader content rollout planned for 2025. According to the official Development Roadmap, players can look forward to several new features and events, including:

• New scenarios like Code: Broken, Deviation, and Purification
• Visional Wheels mechanic
• A major crossover event scheduled for late 2025

Considering all the exciting updates on the horizon, it might be worth waiting for controller support to fully enjoy what Once Human has to offer.
