Den mystiske 'C'-knappen på Nintendo Switch 2 er ekte – men hva gjør den?

Denne artikkelen er tilgjengelig på følgende språk

So, after months of leaks, rumors, and people zooming in on blurry promo shots, we finally have official confirmation: the Nintendo Switch 2 does have a ‘C’ button. Yep, it’s real. It’s there. It’s got a little 'C' on it. But... what does it actually do? No one knows yet, and that’s got the internet absolutely spiraling.

Let’s rewind a bit. Rumors about the mysterious 'C' button started way before Nintendo’s initial Switch 2 reveal. Leakers claimed the button would live somewhere near the Home button on the right-hand Joy-Con. And sure enough, when Nintendo finally unveiled the console back in January, there was a suspicious little button in that exact spot… but it didn’t have any label. Just a blank little square.

Fast forward to now: Nintendo just showed off their new mobile app, Nintendo Today (basically a calendar-style news hub for all things Nintendo), and in the promotional images for the app, eagle-eyed fans noticed something familiar—and different. The same button that was blank before now has a bold white 'C' printed right on it. No announcement, no fuss—just quietly sitting there in an official product image like it hadn’t been a topic of massive speculation for months.

So now that the 'C' is officially a thing, let’s get into the wild theories. Some people think it’s just a throwback to the old-school Nintendo days—like the GameCube’s yellow 'C' stick or the even older 'C' buttons on the N64. That would be a nice nostalgic touch, sure, but considering how secretive Nintendo is being about it, fans are convinced it does more than just pay homage.

One theory floating around is that 'C' stands for “Cast”, hinting at some kind of built-in streaming or screen-sharing feature. Others say it could mean “Chat”, maybe pointing to long-overdue voice or text chat support baked into the system itself—something fans have been asking for since the original Switch launched.

There’s even a theory that 'C' means “Campus”, which sounds bizarre at first, but hear this: it’s allegedly a next-gen evolution of the Wii U’s Miiverse, giving players a social hub to hang out, post messages, and show off their games. If true, that would actually be pretty rad.

And then there’s the idea that the 'C' might not mean anything at all—it could just be the button you press to activate a hidden feature, like the rumored mouse/trackpad functionality people have been whispering about since January. (Yes, the idea of a mouse pointer on a Switch sounds weird, but hey, it's Nintendo. They love weird.)

Of course, it’s also possible that pressing 'C' just makes Fire Emblem's Chrom pop up and wink at you. We wouldn’t be mad.

The good news? We probably won’t have to wait much longer to find out. Nintendo’s next big Direct is just around the corner—Wednesday, April 2nd at 2 pm UK time—and it’s expected to give us a full deep-dive on the Switch 2. So yeah, circle your calendars (or tap them if you’re already using Nintendo Today) because we’re finally gonna get answers.

Until then, keep those wild theories coming. We’ll 'C' you next week.
