Warner Bros. Games has reportedly scrapped development on an unannounced expansion for Hogwarts Legacy, which was expected to launch in late 2025. The rumored DLC is the latest victim of the publisher’s financial struggles, following setbacks across multiple studios and in-development projects.

Hogwarts Legacy DLC Canceled Amid Warner Bros. Restructuring

Following the massive success of Hogwarts Legacy in 2023, Warner Bros. sought to expand its Wizarding World gaming lineup. However, efforts in that direction faced significant hurdles, especially after Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions failed to gain traction post-launch in September 2024. Additionally, the publisher endured back-to-back commercial disappointments with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and MultiVersus.

These struggles appear to have directly impacted the fate of Hogwarts Legacy’s post-launch content. According to a March 2025 Bloomberg report, Warner Bros.-Discovery’s leadership axed the DLC as part of an “ongoing restructuring” at Avalanche Software. The publisher reportedly felt the expansion “wasn’t substantial enough” to justify the price point being considered.

Along with the DLC, Warner Bros. also canceled a planned "Definitive Edition" of Hogwarts Legacy, which would have included the base game bundled with the expansion. The DLC itself was rumored to be developed in partnership with Rocksteady Studios, reviving cut content from the original game, including a companion-focused storyline.

Despite this setback, the sequel to Hogwarts Legacy remains in active development at Avalanche Software, signaling that Warner Bros. still sees long-term value in the franchise.

Warner Bros. Games Continues Cost-Cutting Measures

The cancellation of Hogwarts Legacy’s DLC is part of a broader wave of cost-cutting at Warner Bros. Games. In February 2025, the company canceled the highly anticipated Wonder Woman game and shuttered three studios, including Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor developer Monolith Productions.

Meanwhile, Rocksteady Studios faced layoffs following the underwhelming performance of its live-service Suicide Squad title. The upheaval has extended to Warner Bros.’ executive ranks, with reports suggesting the company is negotiating the departure of Games Division President David Haddad later this year.

Hogwarts Legacy Sequel Still Moving Forward

While the cancellation of the DLC is disappointing, Hogwarts Legacy’s sequel appears to be on solid ground. Warner Bros. has previously emphasized the importance of the Wizarding World franchise in its future plans, making it unlikely that the highly anticipated follow-up will face similar issues.
