Red Dead Redemption: The Silent 60 FPS Revolution on PlayStation 5

Denne artikkelen er tilgjengelig på følgende språk

A recent update for Red Dead Redemption discreetly introduced a highly anticipated feature to the beloved Rockstar title. After the disappointment of the August Red Dead Redemption ports, which left many fans disheartened, it seemed unlikely that this feature would ever arrive, especially considering that the current generation of consoles did not receive native versions.

Ever since the release of Red Dead Redemption 2, there have been persistent rumors about its predecessor, Red Dead Redemption, which originally debuted over a decade ago in 2010. Some enthusiasts hoped for an official announcement of a remake or remaster, with the aspiration of bringing the original game up to the standards set by its sequel. However, these hopes were dashed when Rockstar revealed its plans for the return of Red Dead Redemption, which would be limited to PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch ports. While these ports offered some enhancements, they fell short of the typical remaster standards, and PlayStation 5 users were left with a version capped at 30 FPS. Fortunately, Rockstar has addressed this limitation.

Shortly after the update became available, the official Rockstar Twitter account confirmed that Red Dead Redemption, along with the Undead Nightmare DLC, could now be played in 60 FPS on PlayStation 5. In addition to the improved framerate, the update allows players to enable subtitles when they first launch the game and includes unspecified bug fixes. Physical copies of the ports will be available for purchase starting October 13.

While the increased framerate is a welcome improvement, it only addresses one of the many criticisms that the recent ports faced. Many fans were perplexed by the decision to skip releasing versions for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S, as there had been a strong demand for Red Dead Redemption to return. Furthermore, the $50 price tag for the ports, which offered virtually no significant changes compared to the 2010 version, was considered quite steep, especially considering the absence of multiplayer. Additionally, Red Dead Redemption is still not accessible on PC.

Adding to the frustrations of Red Dead enthusiasts, Red Dead Online had seen minimal new content for years before Rockstar announced that the limited resources assigned to the struggling multiplayer mode would be redirected towards developing GTA 6. Nonetheless, fans are likely to intensify their requests for Rockstar to introduce a performance mode for Red Dead Redemption 2, which currently runs at 30 FPS on current consoles.

Red Dead Redemption Update 1.03 Patch Notes:

  • Added an option to enable 60 FPS when playing on PlayStation 5 via backward compatibility.
  • Added an option to enable subtitles upon first launching the game.
  • General bug fixes and improvements.
