Bethesda Unleashes Stellar Update: Starfield Beta 1.8.87 Tackles Celestial Glitches and Nixes Infinite Weapon Exploit!
On December 1, Bethesda released yet another update for Starfield, identified as version 1.8.87. This swift follow-up comes less than two weeks after the introduction of Starfield update 1.8.86, which brought notable features like an eat command and DLSS support to the space-themed RPG.
Among the various enhancements in this latest release, a standout fix addresses an unusual bug that occasionally presented Starfield players with unexpected travel companions in the form of asteroids and other celestial objects. Despite the mysterious origins of this bug, it has persisted since the game's launch, as evidenced by player reports dating back to September. The official description of the fix in the Starfield beta update 1.8.87 labels it as a partial solution, specifically dealing with space matter being stuck behind the player. However, the more egregious instances of this bug, such as New Atlantis following players around, await a full resolution in a future update, according to the official changelog.
Furthermore, the December 1 update addresses an exploit that allowed players to exploit an infinite weapon glitch by building a Weapon Case in an Outpost, saving and reloading the game. Prior to this patch, the glitch resulted in Starfield spawning random guns in the case, offering players infinite weapon generation. Although the 1.8.87 build is currently in beta, players can still leverage the infinite weapon exploit until the patch is officially released. It's worth noting that experimental patches are exclusive to the Steam version and require players to opt into the Starfield beta channel.
While the PC Game Pass and Xbox Series X/S versions are set to receive the patch in the coming weeks, it's essential to recognize that the previous Starfield beta update spent nine days in testing before being rolled out to the wider player base.
In summary, the Starfield beta update 1.8.87 delivers fixes for space-travel-related bugs and patches an exploitable infinite weapon glitch, providing players with an improved and more stable gaming experience.
