Quests are a new type of card that will be introduced to the adventure. Each class has been confirmed to get one of them, and there are a few things you should know up front.

For starters, these are Legendary cards, meaning that you can only have one of them in your deck, which also means that the completion award can only be earned once, as far as we know. Quest cards all cost one mana to cast, and therefore begin the Quest, and will always be present in your opening hand. We don’t know the specifics of this yet, whether it will count as one of your 3-4 cards you start with, or if it will be something entirely different altogether.

The goal of the Quest that is to be completed can be seen by both players, despite the fact that they appear in the secret slots above your hero portrait. Instead of a “?” symbol, these will have a “!”, and placing your cursor over it reveals both the goal of the quest, the reward, and that player’s progression on it. The Reward for these quests, so far, is a card that is added to your hand. These cards are often incredibly impactful, such as the reward from the Priest’s Quest, Awaken the Makers. Upon summoning 7 Deathrattle minions, players are Rewarded with Amara, Warden of Hope.

Needless to say, this guy packs a punch against any board, aggro, midrange and control alike.

This means big change for Hearthstone in how it is to be played. Running 1-drops seems much less effective in decks based around completing quests, unless they are either used for utility, or as a method of quest progression. For example, a Quest that requires players to summon a certain amount of Deathrattle minions would be nice to include some 1-mana Deathrattle cards. Aside from that, however, a guaranteed play on turn 1 certainly slows down the tempo these decks can output, at least from the very start. This could be nice, in the sense that it could allow decks to have an easier start, but it also is troubling players at the possibility of aggro decks becoming somehow more effective since they won’t have to worry about board progression on turn 1. On the other side of this, the effect of the Quest could prove to tedious to deal with that only other big win condition decks can hope to deal with them.

There will be more information released as of March 17th, when the official card reveals will begin. We aren’t sure why Blizzard waited so long to begin their announcements, but the hype is certainly mounting. Your casters for this event will be the loved Sean “Day[9]” Plott, and Senior Designer Peter Whalen. More details on the stream can be found here through Blizzard’s official post.
