Moddere i Halo: Campaign Evolved har allerede knekt PC-filer med delt skjerm og karakterer
Halo: Campaign Evolved's file structure was open within days of launch, and modders wasted no time using it.Play as CJ, uploaded July 26 by DankDC, replaces the classic armor with GTA: San Andreas protagonist Carl Johnson. Iron Man 1 - Mark 2 and 3 Armors, uploaded July 29 by Glitch5970, swaps Master Chief's Mark V armor for Iron Man's suit from the first Iron Man film and selects through the in-game Customization tab like any other armor option. The creator calls it their "first full character replacement mod for Campaign Evolved."
A third mod pushes the same system further. Play as Brute, uploaded July 27 by Omniscye, turns the player character into a fully animated Brute, the alien species Halo casts as an enemy. It only works in third person, since the Brute model breaks first-person view entirely, so the mod requires the Perspective Skull to function. All three mods install the same way: drop files into a "~mods" or Pak folder the game already reads from.
A separate mod called "Everyone is Sgt. Johnson," uploaded July 26, works the NPC side of the same system, replacing every human character, including story-critical figures like Keyes and Williams, rather than the player model. The creator warns that voice lines break in scenes built around the swapped characters, a side effect of overwriting files never meant to hold someone else's dialogue.
PC split-screen co-op came from the same kind of file access. Modders discovered the split-screen HUD layouts, sign-in UI, VFX variants, and audio parameters were already cooked into the game's files, built for console but switched off on PC. One mod flips that dormant code back on. A second, more developed version adds independent armor and weapon customization for player two, keyboard-and-mouse-plus-controller support, and a proper name field instead of a placeholder.
Halo Studios shipped Campaign Evolved with two-player split-screen on PlayStation for the first time in series history, so the feature existed in the build modders are now pulling PC access out of. Campaign Evolved's remake also added Operation: Meteorite, three prequel missions built around a Covenant research vessel raid, and the base game landed to strong reviews before any of these mods existed.
I think the CJ and Iron Man mods matter less for the characters themselves than for the timeline: July 26 to July 29 covers early access through full launch, and modders had working character replacements before some players finished the campaign once. I'd expect an official patch enabling PC split-screen sooner than usual now that a community mod already proves it works, since Halo Studios rarely lets a fan fix outperform its own roadmap for long.
