As you may know, Warhorse Studios, the studio behind the Kingdom Come: Deliverance game series, is officially working on a game set in Middle-earth. It will be a full-fledged open-world RPG, officially announced this past May. But there may soon be word of another Middle-earth title—specifically, a remastered version of a largely forgotten game released in 2011.

We're talking about The Lord of the Rings: War in the North, developed by Snowblind Studios. It's a co-op RPG set in the northern lands of Middle-earth, letting players control three different characters—Eradan (a Ranger), Farin (a Dwarf), and Andriel (an Elf). The game supports both online multiplayer and split-screen. Unfortunately, it's been unavailable on Steam and other stores since 2018 due to licensing issues, but that might be about to change.

Players have discovered The Lord of the Rings: War in the North—Legacy Edition has appeared in the SteamDB database under ID 2523770, hinting an announcement of the enhanced version could be soon. Among the interesting details is an EpicOnlineServices SDK tag, suggesting the game might now be using Unreal Engine 5. The listing also includes co-op, local co-op, and single-player tags, just like the original, along with support for achievements and more.

The Forgotten Lord of the Rings Game Might Get a Remastered Version Soon 1

It's also worth noting the first hints of an updated version surfaced back in March. At the time, Reddit user JudgmentKazz spotted a reference to Aspyr in the installation paths—a studio known for previously developing Tomb Raider remasters. There's a good chance they're the ones behind this Legacy Edition, though nothing's been officially confirmed yet.

When it originally launched, The Lord of the Rings: War in the North received positive reviews from both critics and players, praised for its well-executed co-op mode, brutal combat system, immersive atmosphere, Diablo-esque skill progression, and an original story that expanded the universe's lore.
