GTA Online Diamond Casino er nå regionlåst i Australia

Australian players opened GTA Online this week and found the Diamond Casino closed to them. Blackjack, roulette, and three-card poker return a "this feature is not available for you" notice, and the block reaches past the card tables to the rest of the casino's money games.

Dataminer Tex2 pulled the code after the first reports and found a territory based restriction covering Casino House, Three Card Poker, Inside Track, Lucky Wheel, Blackjack, Roulette and Slots. That list reads like a switch rather than a fault: every gambling surface in the building, disabled by region, with the rest of GTA Online untouched. Two entries widen the scope past card games. Inside Track is the casino's horse racing terminal, and the Lucky Wheel is the free daily spin that hands out cash, clothing and the podium vehicle. Pulling those takes away a reward players never staked chips on.

Nothing in Australian law obviously required it. Simulated gambling in a game needs an R18+ classification there, and GTA Online has carried R18+ for its whole life. Casino chips are bought with GTA$, which players either earn in game or buy through Shark Cash Cards with real money, and winnings never convert back into cash. Money can go in; it cannot come out. On that basis the Diamond Casino has always been legal in Australia, however uncomfortable the loop looks. PC Gamer has asked Rockstar for a statement and had no answer at the time of writing. I have never once loaded GTA Online for the roulette wheel, so losing it costs me nothing, and the mechanism interests me more than the loss.

The casino also sits on the paid side of GTA Online's economy, because chips come out of a GTA$ balance that Shark Cash Cards top up. Switching it off in a market removes a sink that money flowed into.

The paper trail points at a rating. GTA Online was classified again for Xbox Series X|S on 22 July through the IARC automated rating tool, filed under record CLAS-686919. The entry keeps R18+ and lists high impact violence, high impact sex scenes, high impact drug use, online interactivity and high impact themes. High impact gambling is not on it. Australian classification requires that descriptor when a game contains simulated gambling, so the rating submitted on 22 July describes a version of GTA Online with no working casino. The block surfaced days later.

IARC ratings come out of a questionnaire the publisher fills in, mapped onto each participating country's local system, so the Australian record reflects what Rockstar declared about the game rather than an examination by the board. The record names Rockstar Games as production company, IARC as applicant and 2026 as the year of production. Read that way, the decision to close the casino in Australia was taken before 22 July, and the classification is the paperwork that followed it.

The wider policy timing is hard to ignore. Australia announced its Gambling Reforms package on 2 April, introduced the Interactive Gambling Amendment (Gambling Reform) Bill 2026 and a companion levy bill on 2 July, and set commencement for 1 January 2027. The package bans wagering advertising during live sport and inside venues, funds enforcement against illegal gambling services, strengthens the BetStop self-exclusion register and takes aim at emerging online lottery products, with the stated purpose of protecting children and young people from gambling harm. Alongside the bills, the Department of Social Services is expanding financial counselling for people in hardship from gambling and running public awareness work on the risks, and a separate track aims to make match fixing offences consistent across the states. None of it covers simulated casino games inside a video game. No clause in that bill told Rockstar to close the Diamond Casino, which makes the timing look like a company reading the room a year early.

Australia is not first either. If the block holds, it joins a list of more than 50 countries where GTA Online's gambling is switched off, among them South Africa, Poland, China and Argentina. The territory system has been running for years, and Australia is a new entry in it rather than a new invention.

Rockstar has said nothing about whether the change is permanent, and no statement addresses players sitting on chips they paid for. Until the company speaks, the only hard evidence is the disabled code and a classification record with a missing line.

The forward question is GTA 6. Grand Theft Auto VI arrives on 19 November for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, and Rockstar has detailed almost nothing about its online component. If that mode ships with simulated gambling, the same territory flag applies and Australia gets the version without it. I think this matters more as a preview of how GTA 6 Online will be trimmed country by country than as a story about a casino few people will defend.

GTA Online is still being fed in the meantime. The Kortz Center Heist landed on 14 July, the first major heist added since 2020, and Rockstar opened the game free of charge on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S until 20 July with no PS Plus or Game Pass Essential required. Fans went through the update frame by frame and came out with a necklace worn by a character named Rae that matches one Cal Hampton wears in GTA 6, paintings read as nods to Jason and Lucia, and one canvas that resembles an abstract outline of the GTA 6 map, with shapes fans have labeled Vice City, Leonida Keys and Port Gellhorn. That last one is speculation.

The hint of more updates in the future came from the game itself: after the heist wraps, Mr Faber calls the player.

"Is there no limit to your talents? I suppose we shall find out."

Fans read the callback as Rockstar signaling that Kortz is not the last drop before November, and nothing has been confirmed. I know Rockstar rarely leaves a line like that in a script by accident, which is the strongest hint on offer that the game due to be replaced in four months still has content queued behind it.

Rockstar's silence is the loose end, along with whether the same restriction reaches the PS5 and PC versions once their classifications refresh, and whether it is still in place on 1 January 2027, the day the reforms commence.
