James Bond-spillet 007: First Light nærmer seg Switch 2-debut

The Switch 2 version of 007 First Light is close, according to IO Interactive. The James Bond origin story has been out on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5 since May 27, but Nintendo's platform was held back. IOI confirmed the delay in April, when it said the game would arrive on Switch 2 "later this summer." That window still holds.

Senior licensing producer Theuns Smit gave Pocket Tactics an update on where the port stands. He said the team is seeing strong progress on optimisation and that the work is moving fast.

"We want to make sure that we give it its time in optimisation and performance, that it reaches the quality that not only we desire, but that we feel our players deserve."

IOI has not committed to a date. Smit said the studio would share more once it was ready, and that for now the project was on track and going well. That fits the pattern around this game. The Switch 2 version was pulled from the May launch after an earlier delay in late 2025, and the studio also revised its PC system requirements after players flagged inconsistencies. The console and PC versions arrived intact, with Eurogamer's Rick Lane awarding the game four stars and calling out its fistfights and charm while noting it is less replayable than IO's World of Assassination trilogy.

007 First Light is the first James Bond game in more than a decade. It casts Patrick Gibson as a young, inexperienced Bond and blends stealth, combat, and driving sections in a structure that borrows from IOI's Hitman work but leans harder into action. Gameplay director Andreas Krogh has cited Uncharted and the Batman: Arkham games as reference points for the cinematic sequences.

The sales numbers explain why the port matters. IOI reported 2.7 million copies in the first week, and the figure has since passed 3 million. The studio also released playstyle data from that opening week: 34 million missions started, 30 percent completed successfully, and wine bottles accounting for 36 percent of all thrown projectiles. Those totals will be higher now.

I run a channel built around open-world games, and a Switch 2 release is the version I'm watching most, because that hardware decides whether a stealth-action game like this reaches the players who never owned the other consoles. A clean port widens the audience far more than another trailer would. IOI clearly knows this, which is why it is taking the extra time rather than shipping a compromised build to hit a date.

Post-launch support is already mapped out. IOI has confirmed free year-one content and significant plans beyond release, including replayability features tied to its TacSim systems. Amazon, which owns the Bond franchise, is reportedly weighing a sequel, though there is no guarantee IO Interactive would develop it.

For now, the message from the studio is narrow and specific: the Switch 2 build is in optimisation, the progress is good, and the release is not far off. No date, but a window that has not moved since April. I think the steady messaging is the most reassuring thing here, given how often this game's schedule has shifted. The team is choosing performance over speed, and on Nintendo's hardware, that is the right call.
