Insider avslørte hvorfor Capcom kansellerte Resident Evil Revelations 3 med Rebecca Chambers

Capcom is officially working on a new remake in the Resident Evil universe, announced at the Summer Game Fest, titled Resident Evil Veronica. In addition, development is still ongoing for a story expansion for Requiem, although details about it remain undisclosed. Over the past few years, the studio has released several major projects, so it's not surprising that some ideas were eventually shelved. One of these canceled projects was supposed to be Resident Evil Revelations 3.

Insider Dusk Golem shared more detailed information about the cancellation of the game. The main protagonist of Resident Evil Revelations 3 was supposed to be Rebecca Chambers—a former STARS medic, BSAA advisor, and a key character in the very first Resident Evil as well as Resident Evil Zero. According to the insider, Capcom decided to cancel the game in 2022 because their priorities at the time were Resident Evil 4: Remake and Resident Evil Requiem. However, some ideas from the canceled game might have been carried over into the ninth installment, specifically the Investigate demo.

“Cancelled in the Summer of 2022. The reason it was scrapped was apparently it wasn't turning out very good, & at the time they needed all hands on deck for RE:4 & Requiem, & decided to greenlight Code Veronica & Zero Remake instead.

I theorize RE9 used Rev 3 concepts tho, some of the stuff with Grace in RE9 are suspiciously similar to some things I'd heard about Rev 3 in a "Investigate" demo they held. But that's just a theory of mine that they took some of the scrapped Rev 3 ideas for RE9.”

Although we're unlikely to see the release of Resident Evil Revelations 3 anytime soon, Rebecca Chambers may make a comeback as early as next year, since Capcom is actively working on a remake of Resident Evil Zero. Additionally, according to recent rumors, Resident Evil 10 will be set in Japan —the first time in the franchise’s history.
