Elden Ring: Nightreign Beta-spillere fikk 58 000 bossdrap... og mistet 38 milliarder runer i prosessen
The Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree – Nightreign closed beta wrapped up recently, and Bandai Namco just dropped some juicy stats from the bloodbath. And let’s just say… y’all put in work. From boss takedowns to completely ludicrous rune losses, the numbers tell the tale of a beta that was equal parts pain, glory, and whatever that weird panic-scream is when you get ganked by a dragon mid-roll.
Let’s start with the wins. The MVP (or most-defeated-very-big-boi) of the beta was the Golden Hippopotamus—taken down nearly 195,000 times. That’s right, 195k hippos caught these hands. Right behind were the Flame Chariots (165k deaths), the Fire Monk (150k), and the Flying Dragon of the Hills (147k). The Royal Army Knights got slapped around only 98,738 times, so either they were tougher than expected or players just didn’t want that smoke.
But the real “hell yeah” moment? Over 58,615 players managed to beat Night Lord Gladius, Beast of the Night, the Day 3 boss. That’s not just a win—that’s a statement. It’s worth noting that reaching Day 3 in the beta wasn’t easy, so getting a crack at Gladius was an achievement on its own. Beating him? That’s flex-worthy.
But as is a tradition in Elden Ring, with triumph comes tragedy.
Let’s talk about the runes. Specifically, the 37,957,453,867 runes lost during the beta. Yes, that’s almost 38 billion. In 15 hours. That’s roughly 2.5 billion runes lost per hour, or if you want to really feel the pain, about 42 million runes lost every single minute.
It's like: “Yay, I finally beat that boss!” Five seconds later: “Oh no, I just tripped off a ledge and lost 80k runes.” And repeat.
If you’re wondering how the rune hemorrhage got that bad, it probably has a lot to do with people dying mid-rescue. In Nightreign, you can revive downed allies by hitting them (because sure, that makes sense in Elden Ring logic), and players used that system a lot. A ridiculous 23.6 million attacks were used to try to revive teammates. That’s not 23 million revives—that’s 23 million attempts, meaning it was basically a constant cycle of “HELP ME, I’M DOWN!” followed by someone frantically mashing R1 and praying.

The best part? This all happened in five short beta sessions, each just three hours long. And the first one had server issues, so technically, a lot of this carnage happened in even less time. FromSoftware gave players a taste of Nightreign, and we collectively turned it into a high-stakes carnival of death, teamwork, and hippo beatdowns.
All in all, the numbers are a hilarious reminder of what makes Elden Ring and its community so great. Yes, we lose billions of runes. Yes, we die—a lot. But we also show up, revive each other (eventually), and take down towering nightmares with a sword the size of a refrigerator.
And hey, if this was just the beta? Imagine the stats when Nightreign drops for real.
- Golden Hippo: 195k deaths
- Day 3 Boss Gladius: 58k victories
- 23.6 million revive attacks
- Nearly 38 billion runes were lost in 15 hours
Can't wait for the full release. We’re all going to die. Gloriously.
