In a statement released on Monday, Galyonkin announced that today is his last day at Epic Games, the developer behind Fortnite.

The reasons for his departure remain unclear, and it's uncertain whether it is directly linked to the significant workforce reduction at Epic. Last week, the company unveiled plans to lay off approximately 830 employees, constituting 16% of the total workforce.

In his departure announcement, Galyonkin mentioned that he no longer aligns with the company's current direction.

It's noteworthy that Galyonkin is the creator of Steam Spy, a website launched in 2015 that automatically gathers data from Steam user profiles and generates statistics, including estimated game sales and average playtime per game.

He initially joined Epic Games in February 2016 as the head of publishing for Eastern Europe and later assumed his current position in August 2017, as indicated on his LinkedIn profile.

The knowledge and expertise Galyonkin acquired from Steam Spy played a role in the development of Epic's Steam competitor, the Epic Games Store, which was introduced in December 2018 as an alternative to Steam.

Galyonkin concluded his statement by expressing gratitude to his former colleagues at Epic Games and to Tim Sweeney for the opportunity to contribute to various phases of the company's evolution, including the shift towards the platform-focused model of Epic 5.0. He also expressed appreciation for Epic Games' generous $144 million donation to various charitable organizations in support of Ukraine during the early stages of the 2022 Russian invasion. Galyonkin expressed his intention to continue his involvement in the gaming industry after departing from Epic Games.
