Havik, a character who tears off his own arm and uses it in combat, will be returning in Mortal Kombat 1

In the brutal world of Mortal Kombat, where limbs are constantly torn apart, only one daring individual dared to declare: "Halt! My limbs belong to me, and I have no intention of parting with them." And that daring individual became Havik.

This "Chaosrealm Servant" emerged from the enigmatic realm of 3D games from the Mortal Kombat universe in the 2000s. Thanks to his devotion to anarchy, Havik is capable of swiftly recovering even after the most severe injuries. One of his favorite techniques involves detaching his own hand and wielding it as a weapon against his opponents. His name signifies his defiance of rules.

Such a brutal and distinctive style seamlessly complements the realistic violence of the modern Mortal Kombat era. It's heartening to see that he will become one of the playable fighters in the upcoming Mortal Kombat 1.

Another character from the 3D era joining the roster of Mortal Kombat 1 is Ashra, who appears angelic but is in fact a demon from the Netherrealm (referring to the infernal plane, not the game developer). This serves as a reminder not to judge a book by its cover.

It's not surprising that Reptile has returned. However, Mortal Kombat 1 showcases intriguing changes in his character. In recent games, there has been fluctuation in how reptilian the beloved green ninja should appear. In the original games, he was a human (as all ninjas were basically palette swaps of each other), but in the later installments, his appearance became progressively more monstrous. Mortal Kombat 1 strikes a compromise - now he looks human, very reminiscent of his initial appearance, yet he can also willingly assume his true form, more beast-like than ever before. During combat, he rapidly switches between these two forms for various attacks, granting him an entirely new style. And, of course, he can still become invisible.

The closed beta testing for Mortal Kombat 1 will commence on August 18th, with guaranteed access for pre-orders. The full game will be released on September 19th - hopefully, by that time, we'll have a moment between assembling sandwiches in Starfield and be ready for the classic ultra-violence.
