Review of MDL Macau 2019

Recently the Dota 2 tournament of the MDL Macau 2019 series has ended up. The guys from Team Liquid became the winners. We will analyze the results of the competition and highlight interesting moments at the Chinese championship.

Disappointing teams:

Vici Gaming and Virtus.Pro

Virtus.Pro and Vici Gaming are the main disappointment of this competition as the Chinese collective looked pretty good during the last year and at the beginning of the current season but couldn't make it to Four Best again. The collective performed at the group stage very well, but at the playoff two matches brought the players two wins and now the roster is out of the competition.

Meanwhile, “Bears” made their fans disappointed not because of their position, but their attitude to the tournament as the third place can't be a failure. The collective played terribly at the group match and the commentators paid attention to the fact that No[o]ne and 9pasha played Apex Legends during the playoff stage. This very fact caused a storm in the community.

Surprising teams:

Newbee and Evil Geniuses

The guys from Newbee represent this category due to the fact that after September's reshuffle they had problems with their game and the last six months the collective managed to earn only $3,000 at online tournaments. At this competition the team showed worthy results and played well at the group stage and playoff. As a result, the guys show progress but they are getting into shape very slowly.

Meanwhile, Evil Geniuses are a strong team and they can't be surprised with the second team, but we should remind that the team was performing with a substitute - CC&C played with SumaiL because of vacation of the latter. The collective performed with mixed results at the group stage, losing against clear outsiders from time to time, but at the playoff the guys showed a good level and only Team Liquid managed to win over them.

Teams that performed according to their level:

EHOME, Invictus Gaming, RNGU and Team Liquid

The teams Invictus Gaming and Royal Never Give Up were approaching the competition as ones of the outsiders and perhaps nobody hoped that they would show an excellent performance, but playing at the tournament, the guys fought well at the group stage which meant nothing. At the final stage the grands of the modern professional stage defeated the mentioned rosters.

It's worth marking the results of the team EHOME separately. The collective had to play at the competition with two substitutes. Li «ASD» Zhiwen couldn't take part in the competition because of visa problems and Zhang «Faith_bian» Ruida hurt his hand during a photoshoot. As a result, the collective got the 7-8 positions, but we can't blame a roster with two subs.

The last team that performed as it was supposed to be done by a team of their level is Liquid, as the guys raised the cup over their heads. Considering the substitutes, the only team that was capable of making a fight with them is Virtus.Pro, but they didn't treat this tournament seriously, so triumph of MATUMBAMAN and the team was pretty easy for them.
